The Nava Sama Samaja Party demands the immediate release of the comrades of the Frontline Socialist Party.

(COLOMBO, Sri Lanka) - Dimuthu Attygalle and Kumar Gunarathnam Two leaders of the Frontline Socialist Party were separately abducted in the early hours of Saturday 7 April 2012 from Kiribathgoda and Godagama respectively (suburbs of Colombo).

They are prominent representatives of a new Left party that has broken away from the JVP in opposition to coalition politics and in solidarity with the Tamil peoples struggle for justice and equality.

Sri Lanka Orders Probe on Attack on Indian Statue

According to the police, two other statues of local figures had also been attacked on Thursday, which appeared to have been a coordinated crime.

(COLOMBO, Sri Lanka Xinhua) - Vadalized statues in Sri Lanka Sri Lanka's government ordered an investigation into the vandalism of several statues including that of Indian independence icon Mahatma Gandhi.

There were fears the attack on the Indian icon's statue may have been in retaliation to India's decision to vote against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council recently.

Gandhi Statue Vandalized in Sri Lanka

Attackers beheaded the statues of Gandhi and Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scout movement.

(COLOMBO, Sri Lanka AFP) - There was no claim of responsibility for the destruction. Statues of Indian independence icon Mahatma Gandhi and Britain's Robert Baden-Powell have been vandalised in Sri Lanka amid an anti-Indian and anti-Western campaign on the island, police said on Friday.

Anti-Western graffiti appeared in many parts of the country after the UN human rights council last month adopted a US-led resolution urging Sri Lanka to probe alleged war crimes.

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne believes a conspiracy is underway to create a new civil war in Sri Lanka.

(SALEM) - A woman fighter of the Tamil Tigers takes a shooting position in Sri Lanka in July 2007 The Sri Lankan police on Monday denied claims that Tamil Tiger rebels had infiltrated the island through southern India.

Local media reports quoting police intelligence said that 150 Tamil Tigers had infiltrated the north and east of the country after receiving training in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
