(SALEM, OR) - Immigrants This week, the Republican-led Judiciary Committee in the House of Representatives passed an immigration bill inappropriately named the “SAFE Act.”

It would make the presence of immigrants in the US without proper documentation a federal crime and empower states and counties to turn police into immigration agents.

Arizona Border Deaths Detailed

171 migrant deaths were recorded in 2012, but with 225 migrant deaths registered in the zone examined, 2010 was rated the deadliest year.

(LAS CRUCES, NM) - Border crossing danger- Mexico - US As the hottest time of year descends on the borderland, a new report sheds fresh light on the mass deaths of migrants crossing the deadly Sonora-Arizona desert.

Co-authored by the University of Arizona’s Binational Migration Institute and the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner (PCOME), the study examines the deaths of 2,238 migrants in the Tucson area between 1990 and 2012.

(WASHINGTON DC) - Siva Sivananthan at the Sivananthan Laboratories in Bolingbrook. Sivalingam Sivananthan, professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, has been named a White House Champion of Change. He was presented with the honor at a ceremony this morning at the White House.

The honor recognizes immigrant innovators and entrepreneurs—”the best and brightest from around the world who are helping create American jobs, grow the economy and make our nation competitive in the world,” the White House said in a press release.
