Services For Local Police Killed in the Line of Duty (UPDATED)

The event honoring State Trooper Bill Hakim takes place Saturday. The event honoring Woodburn Captain takes place Friday.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Senior Trooper Hakim and Captain Tennant The memorial service for Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Bill Hakim is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 20th at the Oregon State Fairgrounds Jackson Armory in Salem Oregon. The memorial procession to the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training will follow the service.

The memorial service for Woodburn Police Captain Tom Tennant will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 19th 2008 at the Salem Armory Auditorium located at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem Oregon. Prior to the memorial service Friday, a procession will take place from the Woodburn Drag Strip located at 7730 Highway 219 in Woodburn to the Salem Armory at 2329 17th Street NE in Salem.

Oregon Bids Farewell to Another Decorated War Hero (VIDEO)

Jessica Ellis was a highly decorated combat medic who died three weeks after receiving the Purple Heart.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A soldier who served with honor in the 101st Airborne Division was laid to rest in Oregon and she will be sorely missed by countless family members, loved ones and friends both in Oregon and Iraq.

24-year old Jessica A. Ellis wasn't just a soldier; she was a medic. Her job was keeping people alive in combat and reports indicate that she did it time and time again with valor. She died from injuries resulting from a blast from an improvised explosive device, or I.E.D., that struck her vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq.

U.S. Soldier Receives Distinguished Service Cross

With his Special Forces team surrounded by Taliban fighters, the soildier volunteered to lead a relief force to rescue 2 wounded colleagues.

(FORT BRAGG, N.C.) - Master Sergeant Brendan O'Connor A Special Forces Soldier who crawled 200 feet while being fired upon to save wounded soldiers, then led the besieged group to safety, received the Army's second-highest award for valor, April 30th.

Pentagon to Present Exceptional Public Service Medal to Ben Stein and Bonnie Carroll

Each are being cited for their support of our military.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Bonnie Carroll and Ben Stein with Lynne Cotrell The Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service will be awarded to Ben Stein, author, actor and commentator, and Bonnie Carroll, founder and director of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, in a ceremony at the Pentagon.

This award is the Office of the Secretary of Defense's highest level public service award. Stein and Carroll are being honored for their contributions and support to the U.S. Armed Forces and the "America Supports You" program.

State sesquicentennial celebration starts with agriculture.

(SALEM, Ore.) - This past week, 14 family operations were officially recognized as Oregon's first sesquicentennial farms and ranches.

For more than 150 years, these families have made it through bad weather, crop and livestock diseases, an unpredictable marketplace, and many other hardships that would probably wipe out a number of past and present business enterprises. The sesquicentennial farm families adapted to changes and challenges.

Police Officer Laid to Rest in Oregon (VIDEO)

Thousands lined the aisles of the New Hope Community Church in Clackamas Friday to honor of this police officer who impacted so many with his compassion and his desire to help others.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The funeral of Portland, Oregon Police Officer Mark Zylawy, 2-1-08 The life of a police officer who will never be forgotten was celebrated and mourned Friday as loved ones and friends laid to rest 40-year old Mark Zylawy.

This Portland Police Bureau Officer was known on the street as "Z-Man" and remembered by the people he served as a smart and streetwise cop who really cared.
