Black Marine History Through White Marine Eyes

Sept. 9, 1949 is a historic but little known date in the long history of our beloved Marine Corps. That is the day, 63 years ago, that the Montford Point Boot Camp for Marines of African Ancestry was closed, after seven years of operation. -

(WASHINGTON DC) - 70 years since the first African- American Marine recruit reported to Montford Point at Camp Lejeune, N.C., the Montford Point Marines are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

There are approximately 500 surviving members of the almost 20,000 original Montford Point Marines.

Rodney King Dies at the Age of 47

There is no evidence of foul play.

(LOS ANGELES) - Rodney King, the man who became famous after his videotaped beating in 1991, is dead at the age of 47. He was reportedly found dead in his swimming pool. King’s fiancee Cynthia Kelly, called police at 5:25 am to report what she’d found.

King’s beating after a high-speed chase set the nation on fire, as well as much of Los Angeles. The four officers involved in the beating were acquitted, leading to a racial firestorm and debates for many years to come.
