Eureka Winter

Houseless people continue to die and unnecessarily suffer.

(EUREKA) - Eureka Since winter started, people have died in Eureka because of the cold. Well, that's not what the coroner's office has documented, but that is the word on the street.

The temperature is what killed them, but insensitive policies might be more culpable than the winter weather.

Help the Homeless Aids Salem Residents Facing a Tough Winter

In its third year, event sees highest attendance yet.

(SALEM) - John Olivera of Steeles Karate The Help the Homeless event in Salem this weekend was a huge success, thanks to the efforts of John and Marci Olivera of Steeles Karate. In its third year, the event fed and provided helpful items to a large number of attendees who enjoyed good cheer and even live music.

After covering the event, some people who had made the trip to attend Help the Homeless from West Salem, asked if it was possible to get a ride back to the homeless camp they reside in.

On Saturday, it became a criminal offence, with it a penalty of up to six months in jail or a £5000 fine, to trespass in a residential property, under section 144 of Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act (LASPO).

Successive governments have made overtures, initiated clumsy attempts, but all have stopped short of actually criminalising the homeless.
