Retirement Home Residents Evacuated During Salem FIre

At one point Cherriots buses were called in to place some of the patients during the time it took firefighters to fight the fire.

Photo courtesy: Bill Holmstrom 88 elderly patients were evacuated from a retirement facility last night at 7:35 PM as Salem Fire Department crews arrived at 4050 12th Street SE, where an alarm was sounding at Redwood Heights Retirement.

Canby Firefighters Execute Difficult Jaws of Life Recovery

The firefighters had a job on their hands; keeping the car from tipping over during the unusual rescue operation.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Rollover crash near Canby, Oregon. 4-21-08 Canby Fire District rescue team members responded to a rollover accident this morning on 99E north of Canby. The circumstances with the rolled car proved to be a challenge.

Deputy Fire Marshal Todd Gary says firefighters arrived to find the vehicle on its side in a unstable position. He says they where then confronted with the question of how to extricate the driver from the vehicle.

Fiery Truck Crash Halts Traffic on I-5 Sunday

Neither the driver of the truck or her passenger were injured.

(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) - Crash scene near Eugene, Oregon 4-20-08 Police say a commercial truck was destroyed following a Sunday evening fire after it crashed on Interstate 5 southbound between Eugene and Coburg in a highway construction zone.

The driver and passenger were not injured, and the southbound lanes are anticipated to remain closed for about 3 more hours, according to Sergeant Ted Phillips with Oregon State Police in Springfield.

Firefighters Safely Control Hazardous Materials Fire in Clackamas

2 alarm fire destroys business in Clackamas.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Industrial fire in Clackamas, Oregon 4-20-08 Fire officials say a passerby noticed a large plume of smoke while driving east on SE Jennifer Street in Clackamas at midnight. They followed the smoke to the business and called 911. Witnesses state that a large amount of smoke was coming from the eaves of the building.

Clackamas Fire District #1 responded to the commercial fire at 12:00 AM Sunday at 16569 SE 115th in Clackamas.

Sandy Man Dies in Industrial Fire

An accidental fire apparently started while the victim was washing an energized fuel pump in a solvent cleaning tank.

(SANDY, Ore.) - Death investigation A Sandy-area man died Friday morning from injuries sustained in a fire incident north of Sandy, according to the Clackamas County Medical Examiner. A joint investigation is being conducted by fire, police and safety officials.

A spokesman from the Sandy Fire District says today at 8:54 AM, fire personnel were dispatched to a residential fire at 39120 Hudson Road north of Sandy, after a 911 caller reported being injured.

Coast Guard Responds to Cruise Ship Fire on Columbia River

Crewmembers were treated for smoke inhalation and hypothermia.

(MARYHILL, Washington) - The The Coast Guard, state and local authorities have offloaded the passengers and non-essential personnel from the Majestic Cruise Line passenger vessel, Queen of The West, after it suffered an engine fire earlier this morning.

The Queen of The West was beached in a controlled manner in the vicinity of Maryhill State Park, where the passengers were offloaded safely over the vessel's bow ramp.

Woman Arrested for Attempted Arson of a DHS Building

Gresham Police say Marlene Chenette was arrested last night in Vancouver, Washington.

(VANCOUVER, Wash.) - Marlene Chenette Police arrested a woman they believe is connected to a "Molotov Cocktail" style arson attempt on a DHS building. Authorities say Marlene Chenette say became angry with the Department of Human Services over losing her parental rights, and tried to burn the DHS building down in Gresham two years ago.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Compression CPR Recent media coverage of "Compression Only CPR" has prompted concerned citizens to ask for clarification on this life-saving topic from volunteers and staff at the Willamette Chapter American Red Cross.

"Our phones are ringing, we are talking at business meetings, public forums and of course in our first aid and CPR classes throughout Marion and Polk counties", said Jennifer McCormick, health and safety director of the chapter.

Arsonist(s) Sought in Capitol Mall Fires

Approximately 50 people were reportedly in the Capitol Mall area around the time the fires were reported.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Capitol Mall fire An Oregon State Police arson investigator has confirmed Sunday afternoon's fire that destroyed a portable restroom and damaged an underground parking stair access structure on the north end of the Capitol Mall grounds near the Labor & Industries Building was intentionally set.

A second fire scene was also identified at a second portable restroom on the mall grounds about one-tenth of a mile south of the first scene.

Overturned Semi Trailer Blocks Highway 20 Near Newport

Anyone traveling through the area should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

(TOLEDO, Ore.) - Oregon State Police say they are on the scene of a non-injury crash involving an overturned semi truck trailer that had been hauling cardboard on Highway 20.

State troopers report that one lane is blocked on Highway 20 about seventeen miles east of the city of Newport on the Oregon coast.
