(SALEM) - Salem Library As a two-term library board member, I need to alert all citizens that our Salem Public Library is facing serious budget cuts and we need your help to reach a viable compromise. We're told that city officials will seek a 6-hour week for the W. Salem Library this year, way down from the present 31 hours.

If this happens, our main library can be next on the chopping-block.

Canary Party calls on Americans to demand that federal health authorities call this what it is, an autism epidemic...

(WASHINGTON DC) - Autism 1 in 88 This week, the Canary Party expects CDC to announce a new autism prevalence rate of 1 in 88. Boys are diagnosed with autism at four times the rate of girls, meaning 1 in 48 boys.

That new rate would be an increase from the previous 1 in 110 reported two years ago by the CDC’s Autism Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network.

Harley Thief Stole Chopper With Human Remains Mounted on Fender

Special Urn mounted on bike's rear fender contained remains of a wife and mother; the family is pleading to have them returned.

(TACOMA, WA) - Stolen Harley wih mother's urn mounted on rear "Help us find our mom!!!" That is the plea from a man in Tacoma, whose mom's remains are in an urn, mounted to the back of a Harley chopper that was stolen.

They took out a CraigsList ad, about their 1975 Harley Chopper that was stolen at the end of summer from Puyallup Washington.

Infertility Rates Rising for Canadian Couples

For their analysis, researchers used data from a sample of 4,412 couples from the 2009-2010 Canadian Community Health Survey.

(ONTARIO Postmedia News) - Fertility doctor Infertility is on the rise in Canada, according to the first study in nearly two decades to measure the proportion of Canadian couples who are having difficulty conceiving.

The researchers didn't set out to discover why the numbers are increasing.

This amendment is being offered to the Senate transportation bill and is expected to be voted on in the U.S. Senate next week.

(PORTLAND, OR) - US capitol Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley gathered with women’s health advocates today to denounce a Senate amendment that would deny health insurance coverage to women.

It applies to birth control and any essential, preventive health care service if a woman's employer has a religious or moral objection.

HB 4039 modifies Senior and Disabled Property Tax Deferral Program.

(SALEM) - Aerial view of the Oregon capitol by Tim King Salem-News.com Lawmakers in Oregon have approved legislation providing some vulnerable seniors and disabled homeowners more time to remain on the Senior and Disabled Property Tax Deferral program.

In order to protect the solvency of the program, changes were made in 2011 that reduced the number of qualified participants by half, but left many disqualified homeowners with sudden tax bills that they were unprepared to pay.
