Fire Crews Battle Wildfire Near DetroitGerrit Roelof Salem-News.comCitizens are asked to remain clear of the affected area so that crews can get in and attack the fire. (SALEM, Ore.) -
A fire was reported in the upper Elk Creek drainage area around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, approximately 8 miles southwest of the town of Detroit, and about 2 miles west of Slate Rock.

Body Found in Detroit Lake Identified as 60-Year Old Idanha ManSalem-News.comFrom all indications it appears the victim suffered from a medical issue and fell into the lake while fishing. (DETROIT, Ore.) -
The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a body in Detroit Lake near the Breitenbush River Friday. Lt. Sheila Lorance says fishermen found the body and immediately called 911.

The Keizer Citizen Emergency Response Team has been dispatched to the Idanha and Detroit area east of Salem to assist residents who are under feet of snow. The group is trained through the Keizer Fire Department and their recent activation to service was called by Marion County Emergency Management to help with relief efforts for homeowner's in regions.

Slides and Unstable Snowpack Keep U.S. 20 at Santiam Pass ClosedSalem-News.comODOT advises motorists to avoid traveling through the Cascade passes today because of expectations of heavy snowfall. Other conditional closures are possible if conditions worsen. (DETROIT, Ore.) -
U.S. 20 will remain closed from milepost 75 to milepost 80 for most of the day because of the snow slides that occurred at about 6:30 AM. In addition, there is a high probability of more slides from slopes above the highway due to the unstable snowpack coupled with blizzard conditions and high wind gusts. |
