Norway Backs UN Resolution Against Sri Lanka

The UN is expected to demand a long-term plan for how Tamils and Singhalese can live in peace on the island nation.

Funeral Protest Bill Sent to Oregon Governor

Tuesday, the House approved the bill on a 59-1 vote.

(SALEM LID) - Kitzhaber The Oregon Legislature this week sent Gov. John Kitzhaber (D) that would increase penalties for disorderly conduct within 200 feet of a funeral.

Senate Bill 1575 calls for a maximum penalty for the Class A misdemeanor of one year in jail and a $6,250 fine, up significantly from six months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

(CHENNAi, India) - Marie Colvin Renowned journalist Marie Colvin of The Sunday Times (UK), who is familiar to Eezham Tamils for her coverage on the conflict in the island, has been killed in shelling in Syria together with French photographer Remi Olchlik.

The courageous journalist lost one of her eyes in 2001 in Sri Lanka Army shelling while working in the island. She was the only journalist to be present in besieged town of Homs in Syria, covering the conflict there, where she was killed.

Army Releases January Suicide Data

Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick says he is encouraged by the 2011 Army suicide data that reflects a slight decrease in suicides from the record year experienced in 2010.

(WASHINGTON DC) - Army suicides The Army released suicide data today for the month of January. During January, among active-duty soldiers, there were 16 potential suicides: five have been confirmed as suicide and 11 remain under investigation.
