Oregon Racism: a Deeply Rooted Problem

"It is especially important that we recognize the value of our Civil Rights laws and principles, because I think in a very literal sense, no one is truly free unless everyone is." - U.S. Senator Ron Wyden

(SALEM) - Former Oregon Corrections Officer William Coleman Fighting racism in Oregon as a reporter is a lonely job. The subject seems to hold little appeal for Oregon journalists by and large.

As reporters sleep on the job with these stories burning and begging for fair attention, we note that there are even fewer people battling racism from the ranks of law enforcement. Former Oregon prison guard William Coleman, is one of the few who has stayed the course, based on his moral code and federal law. He has been battling racial injustice on his own behalf and that of others, for nearly a decade.

Another victim of Oregon's "justice system" being targeted by state officials and police, needs your help.

(SALEM) - Stop Police Brutality In January 2010 Salem-News.com carried an article about Kimberly Petitt, an African-American woman in Oregon who was suffering extremely objectionable treatment by Oregon officials and a care home that caused the woman to lose almost all of her worldly belongings.

I produced video reports about this but our account with YouTube was politically targeted and closed down with more than 500 important videos and news reports. Sadly, to this day, I have been unable to recover the original files. Now there is a new chance to learn the story of one of Oregon's most unfortunate women...

Domestic Abuse Perpetuated by the Abuse of Police Power

It is time we demand that “Protect and Serve” is not just a saying painted on a vehicle.

(SALEM) - Domestic Abuse As some of you may know, and some may not, I am a survivor of Domestic Abuse. I use the term “Domestic Abuse” because it was not only violence that was unacceptable in the relationship.

I believe that in all violent relationships there is an underlying pattern of abuse which involves psychological, emotional, physical and often sexual abuse. For victims this abuse it is like living in an environment of torture.

Addressing the Income Equality Quandary

While the Ten Commandments declare, "Thou Shalt Not Steal", today's marketplace is rampant with multiple violations. If every alleged "thief" of consumer cash were incarcerated, we'd shortly run out of prison space.

(SALEM) - income equality While the jingle-jingle of Christmas Bells has since subsided, gargantuan greenbacks are still very much in circulation. Recent news headlines have alerted us that more than half of the US Senate has now reached the "millionaire bracket". Why all the racket?

"Income Equality" as a frontline issue did not begin with the Obama Administration nor with Lyndon Johnson's clarion call to declare a War on Poverty. Nor did so-called "class war" start with Karl Marx.
