Health Advisory Issued for Water Contact at Cannon Beach

Although state officials discourage water contact, they continue to encourage other recreational activities on these beaches.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Cannon Beach, Oregon A public health advisory was issued today over higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Cannon Beach. The high levels were found at the Gower Street beach access point.

Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in ocean waters can come from both shore and inland sources such as storm water runoff, sewer overflows, failing septic systems and even animal waste.

Ancient Cannons Discovered Near Arch Cape on Oregon Coast

This level of discovery is extremely uncommon. Officials are asking people to people stay clear of the cannons for now but photos are fine.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Not much remains of the newly discovered cannons at Arch Cape in Oregon.  State history officials say it is a huge find. Visitors to the Oregon coast near Arch Cape south of Cannon Beach in Clatsop County, discovered a pair of cannon buried in the beach sand. Natural erosion revealed the artifacts over the weekend.

Archaeologists say this could very well be an important historic site. Moving, touching, or taking parts of the cannon instantly destroys historical information that could help them understand where the cannons are from and what they mean to Oregon history.

Health Advisory Lifted for Water Contact at Cannon Beach

Subsequent testing showed the contamination had subsided and the waters did not pose a higher-than-normal risk associated with water-contact activities.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Cannon Beach, Oregon A health advisory for contact with marine water at Cannon Beach in Clatsop County was lifted today by the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

The advisory was issued Wednesday, after water samples at Cannon Beach showed higher-than-normal levels of enterococcus, a type of fecal bacteria, in the marine water.

A health advisory has been lifted for water contact at D River State Park Beach in Lincoln City.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Cannon Beach, Oregon A public health advisory was issued Wednesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Cannon Beach in Clatsop County. The exceedance was found in the marine water near the storm water outfall at the Ecola Court beach access point.

Two Teenage Males Sought in Fire at Ecola State Park

Nearly 50 firefighters are on scene, Ecola Beach parking lots are closed, and police say they are looking for possible arsonists.

(CANNON BEACH) - The Oregon State Police is seeking information to help identify two possible suspects that may be responsible for a fire that local firefighters are attempting to control at Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach.

Lt. Gregg Hastings says at approximately 4:15 PM, a fire was reported on a bluff near the main parking area at Ecola State Park.
