City Receiving Complaints About Noise from Forest Fire Fighting Helicopter Training

Crews are flying a Bell 214, which looks and sounds like a Bell UH-1 "Huey" and has the distinctive "wop wop wop" sound.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - bell 214 photo During the last couple weeks, there has been increased helicopter activity at the Corvallis Municipal Airport and over the City of Corvallis.

This activity has elicited a lot of questions and some complaints from residents.

Civil Air Patrol Continues Homeland Security Exercise

Six Oregon CAP aircraft participated in the extensive series of responses for assistance involving over 35 people contributing over 300 man hours through the weekend.

(SALEM) - CAP pilot, Capt. Tom Moore of the South Coast Composite Squadron It was all simulated. Nothing really happened. The hypothetical terrorist attack in California was treated as the real thing however by Oregon and California Wings of the Civil Air Patrol who were part of a six state pacific region Homeland Security training exercise this weekend.

The exercise, planned and coordinated with the United States Air Force and the Department of Homeland Security,
tasked the six state pacific region of the CAP including Oregon, Washington, Nevada, California, Hawaii and Alaska,
with a multitude of potential terrorist themed scenarios with the respective wings responding to realistic forcasts of requests from federal and states agencies.

Body Found Friday on Oregon Coast Could be Missing Passenger from Weekend Plane Crash

Police think it may be the body of a missing Woodburn man who hasn't been seen since a weekend plane crash.

(DEPOE BAY, Ore.) - death investigation Oregon State Police, with the assistance of United States Coast Guard, Depoe Bay Fire Department and Lincoln County Medical Examiner, are investigating the discovery of an unidentified body found Friday morning in the surf at Lincoln Beach south of Gleneden Beach.

Today at around daylight, an area resident reported seeing a body floating in the surf at Lincoln Beach about two miles north of Depoe Bay.

Body Found on Oregon Coast Identified as Silverton Man Missing Since Weekend Plane Crash

Debris from the plane was found in the Lincoln City area Saturday and Sunday.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore. ) - death investigation logo Oregon State Police Identification Services Section was able to positively identify the body discovered Wednesday morning on the ocean shore of Salishan Spit south of Lincoln City as 58-year-old Raymond Patrick Mullen, from Silverton.

Positive identification was made through fingerprints.

Mullen and another person, 61-year-old Larry Underhill, from Woodburn, were missing since the crash of an airplane off the Oregon coast.

Plane Parts Wash Onto Oregon Beach Following Fatal Crash off Coast

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Piper PA28 was similar to this plane Parts of a small plane's landing gear that washed onto Nelscott Beach in Lincoln City appear to be from a missing plane that departed the Siletz Bay Airport at Gleneden Beach between 8:30 and 10:30 Saturday morning.

Lincoln City Police were notified of the find at 3:05 PM by a person who found the plane's rear wheel assembly while walking on the beach.

Lincoln City police identified the pilot as 58-year-old Raymond Mullen, of Silverton and his passenger as 31-year-old Larry Underhill, 61, of Woodburn.

Men Rescued From Plane Crash by Salem Based Oregon Guard Helicopter

The two men were spotted late Monday night by the Guard crew in an OH-58 Kiowa who relayed their location to officials leading the search.

(ODELL LAKE) - Air Guard Kiowa helicopter Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger reports that two men were hoisted from the airplane crash scene at Odell Lake late Tuesday morning and have been transported by Oregon Army National Guard crews to St. Charles Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The men were recovered around 11:00 AM.

A helicopter crew from the Oregon Army National Guard conducted hoist extractions for both victims and took them to Saint Charles Medical Center in Bend. The two men are identified as 24-year old Justin Hall of Portland, and 21-year old Josh Stohr of Eugene.

Delta to Begin Salem to Salt Lake City Non-Stop Flights in June

Delta says customers can begin purchasing SLE to SLC tickets online beginning on Tuesday.

(SALEM) - jet airplane Salem business and community leaders let out a big cheer of “SLE to SLC” after years of hard work paid-off Monday, when Atlanta based Delta Airlines announced it would begin serving Salem’s McNary Field with two round-trip non-stop flights a day, 365 days a year to Salt Lake City, the airlines west coast hub, beginning June 7th.

Delta has assigned a CRJ-200 to the Salem-Salt Lake City route which can accommodate up to 50 passengers.

The flights are scheduled to leave Salem at 6:30 AM arriving Salt Lake City at 9:15 AM and 1:15 PM arriving in Salt Lake City at 4:00 PM.

Amphibian Airplane Makes Emergency Landing on Interstate 84 East of Baker City

The plane with a 48-foot wingspan made a safe landing on the freeway due to bad weather.

(BAKER CITY) - Plane on freeway A 34-year Oregon State Police veteran thought he had seen it all until he saw an amphibian-style airplane in his rearview mirror after it made an emergency landing Sunday morning on Interstate 84 about fifteen miles east of Baker City due to poor weather conditions.

The plane was able to take off about three hours later with the assistance of Oregon State Police troopers and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel.

Salem’s McNary Field Passed Over by Allegiant Air For Now

McNary Field has been without regularly scheduled air service since Horizon left the in 1993.

(SALEM) - Salem McNary Field office Once again Oregon’s Capitol city will have to wait for regularly scheduled commercial air service.

Allegiant Air announced Friday that it will launch nonstop services in Oregon by connecting Redmond and Medford with Las Vegas this spring.

Twice-weekly links between Redmond Municipal Airport, Roberts Field, and McCarran will commence on March 29th.

Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport will also be served by Thursday and Sunday flights, beginning April 5th.

Small Plane Crashes in Southern Oregon

Fortunately neither man was injured in the crash.

(CHEMULT) - Emergency Landing: Cessna 172 Two men were uninjured Tuesday afternoon when their plane made an emergency landing in a logged off area about 1/4 mile west of Highway 97 near the junction with Highway 138 south of Chemult.

OSP says at approximately 12:55 PM, a Cessna 172 containing two occupants was enroute from Ashland to Sunriver when it reportedly experienced fuel problems.

The pilot, 71-year-old Donald Karpen, from Talent, made an emergency landing on a snow-covered logged off area about one mile from the Beaver Marsh airstrip.
