Soldier from Astoria, Oregon dies in Iraq

Browning deployed with his unit to Iraq in August 2006.

(SALEM) - Pfc. Brian A. Browning The Department of Defense announced today the death of another Oregon soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Brian A. Browning, 20, was a rifleman with Company B, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI).

Brian A. Browning of Astoria, Oregon died Feb. 6th in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire while conducting security operations. The infantryman was killed while conducting guard duty.

Three Victims Identified Following Sunday`s Helicopter Crash on Oregon Coast

Police and Coast Guard officials continue to request that anyone finding debris that may be associated with this crash should not remove the debris and notify local law enforcement of its location.

(ASTORIA) - Three people killed Sunday morning when their helicopter crashed into the Pacific Ocean south of Astoria have been identified by the Clatsop County Medical Examiner, Doctor Joanne Stefanelli. Next of kin notifications have been made.

3 Californians Die in Helicopter Crash Off Astoria

Coast Guard pilots reported the on-scene weather as foggy with overcast skies and low visibility.

(ASTORIA) - U.S. Coast Guard Group Astoria recovered the bodies of two men and one woman from the waters near Camp Rilea on the north Oregon coast Sunday shortly after 8:00 AM.

Coast Guard Terminates Voyage of California Vessel

Coast Guard Group Astoria received several calls last week from concerned citizens who had knowledge of the boat's safety violations.

(ASTORIA) - Coast Guard boat The Coast Guard terminated the voyage of a fishing vessel that failed to meet safety requirements Thursday at around 3:30 PM near Astoria after receiving tips from concerned citizens to keep an eye out for the boat.

The fishing vessel, Little Linda, homeported in Oakland, California, was found to be in violation of several boating safety regulations.

Search Resumes for Two Boys, 4 And 5, Missing in Rural Clatsop County

The U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has joined in the search for the two boys, and their 10-month old lab.

(ASTORIA) - A search is under way in rural Clatsop County for two young brothers, ages 4 and 5, who wandered off while camping at an old family home.

The family, from the Portland area, was wrapping up the trip when the boys disappeared around 10:30 AM Monday.

The home, is located on Lillenas Road off Oregon Highway 202, about 11 miles from Astoria.

The boys are blonde and dressed in white t-shirts, light-colored shorts and sandals.

They are accompanied by a 10-month-old black Labrador retriever.

Newport and Astoria Airports Close to Getting Commuter Air Service

Officials hope to gather lots of community, federal, and statewide support for airline service returning to the Oregon Coast.

Dennis Reno, Newport's airport supervisor, says Hyannis, Massachusetts based Cape Air has expressed interest in providing daily scheduled flights between the Newport and Astoria airports and Portland International Airport.
