Governor`s Alcohol Awareness Month Decree Focuses on Teen Drinking

Problems continue in Oregon; 20 percent of 18- to 25-year olds abuse or are dependent on alcohol and need treatment.

(SALEM, Ore.) - This teen was used in an Oregon law enforcement alcohol Alcohol abuse and underage drinking continue to plague Oregon, and the health and social consequences are serious, sometimes fatal, according to the Oregon Department of Human Services Addictions and Mental Health Division.

Drinking starts young in this state. Thirty-one percent of Oregon's eighth graders and half the 11th graders reported regular alcohol use last year.

Another Best of Show for Honeywood Winery

Honeywood Winery is located in Salem, the heart of Oregon’s great and fertile Willamette Valley.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Honeywood Winery’s 2006 Pinot Noir wine was awarded Best of Show Pinot Noir during the 2008 Astoria Seafood & Wine Festival. Honeywood also received a Gold Medal for its Oregon Pear Wine.

President and Winemaker Marlene Gallick states "This is our second best of show award for our wine this year and we are very excited. The pear wine is one of our best sellers, we have seen sales climb since 2005 when the pear became Oregon’s state fruit. We like to refer to the pear wine as Oregon in a glass."

Teens in Oregon Smoking Less, Drinking Alcohol More

In survey results, 32 percent of Oregon's eighth graders and 44 percent of 11th graders drank alcohol within the past month.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Alcohol drinking Cigarette and marijuana smoking are down among Oregon middle and high school students, and alcohol use remains the same for 11th graders but has increased 28 percent for eighth graders, according to the Oregon Department of Human Services Addictions and Mental Health Division.

Three Injured in DUII Related Crash West of Government Camp

The van's right front passenger reportedly saw the out-of-control driver coming, unbuckled his safety restraints and jumped into the back of the van just before impact.

(GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore.) - Crash investigation Oregon State Police say three people were injured and one driver is in custody following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 26, about one mile west of Government Camp.

Preliminary information indicates that today at approximately 2:15 PM, a 2008 Nissan Armada SUV was westbound on Highway 26 near milepost 52 when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and crashed nearly head-on with a 1990 Volkswagon Vanagon.

Deputies Hope Drivers Play it Safe Through New Year`s Eve

As we proceed towards New Year's Eve, Oregon Sheriffs ask that everyone act carefully and responsibly. Don't drink or drive at all.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Raul Ramirez is the recently retired Sheriff of Marion County, Oregon. Christmas is a time to share and celebrate with family and friends. But it is also a time for people to drink and drive which could result in unintended tragedies, according to Raul Ramirez with the Oregon State Sheriffs' Association.

Sheriff's offices across the state reported that between December 21st and December 25th, deputies arrested 76 motorists and charged them with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. There were 317 total arrests made during the Christmas Holiday which included 58 various felony charges.
