Albany Pair Arrested on Drug and Weapons Charges

Arrested at the residence was 48-year old Robert Frederick Hammond, and 41-year old Linda Diana Mendoza.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Linda Diana Mendoza and Robert Frederick Hammond A search warrant in Albany led to the arrest of two residents and according to Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller, "dealer amounts of methamphetamine, packaging materials, scales, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia." He says deputies also recovered over 20 firearms and a large quantity of ammunition.

Armed Robbery Suspect Sought in Albany

There were no other patrons in the business at the time of the robbery and the suspect left the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Suspect from armed robbery 4607 in Albany, Oregon Albany Police responded to AJ's Haus at 1129 SE Santiam Highway early this morning on a report of an armed robbery. The lone employee on duty at AJ's Haus, a local tavern/lottery retailer, told police she had been robbed at gun point shortly after 7:00 AM.

The employee told police that the suspect entered the business armed with a handgun and demanded money.

The suspect was in the business for approximately two minutes during which time he ordered the employee to open the store safe. There were no other patrons in the business at the time of the robbery and the suspect left the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Longtime Albany Landmark, Woody the Duck, Removed from Waverly Lake

Nobody knows what Woody's owner will do with the bird.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - ducks photo Woody the Duck, the floating 6-foot, 350 pound replica of a male duck made of polyurethane foam, was removed from Waverly Lake, located just off of Pacific Blvd, over the weekend by his owner Mike Briggs from Albany.

Albany Parks and Recreation Director Ed Hodney says he is going to recommend to the park commission on Wednesday that Woody be decommissioned because the bird, which had been floating on the lake since 1984, has been damaged and tarnished by winter storms, and bird droppings.

Oregon Father who Used Stun-Gun on Infant Son has Case Held-Over Till Next Month

(ALBANY, Ore.) - 23-year-old Rian James Whittman The Oregon father who shocked the nation after he allegedly used a 100,00 volt stun-gun device on his 18-month-old son multiple times had his case held over on Monday.

23-year-old Rian James Whittman is due back in a Linn County Courtroom April 23rd.

Whittman is charged with two counts each of first-and second-degree assault, all of which are Measure 11 crimes. His wife was cleared by investigators last month of any criminal wrongdoing.

Albany, Oregon Man Arrested After Calling in Phony Bomb Threat

The Linn County Courthouse was evacuated for approximately one hour while deputies searched for any suspicious items.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - linn county sheriff The Linn County Courthouse was evacuated this morning after a man called 911 saying he had left a bomb inside.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says the call came in at 7:58 AM, and the man would not say where he left the bomb.

Dispatchers were able to determine that the call originated from a payphone in downtown Albany.

Former Oregon Daycare Owner Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

Police believe there may be more victims yet to come forward in this case.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Jamie Tennille Burkhart On Monday, Albany Police Detectives arrested 27-year old Albany resident, Jamie Tennille Burkhart, on multiple sex offenses involving a minor boy.

The investigation began in early January 2007 when a 20-year old male reported that he had been sexually abused by Burkhart over a nearly 2-year period beginning in approximately 1996 when he was 10 years old.
