South Salem High School Science Teacher Arrested for Classroom Experiment

The arrest was as much a shock to students as to the teacher.

(SALEM, Ore.) - South Salem High School A teacher from South Salem High School was arrested at the school Tuesday afternoon.

Sam Dufner is a science teacher, he was arrested on two counts of first degree criminal mistreatment involving students, according to Lt. Steve Birr of Salem Police.

Dr. Phil Leveque, WWII Hero and Pot Doc Has Died

Doc Leveque was the greatest part of the Greatest Generation.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Bonnie King and Dr. Phil Leveque It is with great sadness that I share this news. Our doctor, friend, teacher, and mentor 92-year old Phil Leveque passed away Saturday afternoon, peacefully with his family aside him.

His great niece described him as “The Most Awesome, Intelligent, Funny, Open-minded, Game Changing, Great Uncle, Dr. Phil Leveque”, and that about covers it. He did change the game.

Police Involved Shooting Puts Mission Lakes WalMart on Lockdown (UPDATE)

A man is barricaded in a motor home, shooting at police.

(SALEM, Ore.) - walmart lockdown Salem Police have the roads blocked leading to Turner Road where WalMart is under a complete lockdown at this time. Employees are inside, and no one is leaving.

Reports indicate that there is an active shooting incident under way near the entrance of Cascades Gateway Park, in WalMart's parking lot. A SWAT team has been activated and may have arrived by this time.

Not only is Dr. Phil Leveque a tried and true friend of the Veterans, and of the sick, and the poor, but he embodies the all-important personal relationship and trust between doctor and patient.

His is a testament to a life well lived, a very “worthy” life, and the difference one person can make for others.

Thunder rang from the skies but it had to compete for attention on Saturday

(SALEM, Ore.) - biker pack ride That rumble wasn't just the thunder in Salem, Oregon on Saturday. The wind and rain from the stormy skies had nothing on the hundreds of motorcycles on the ground.

Onlookers were enthralled as they watched 475 motorcycles, mostly Harley Davidsons, parade through downtown Salem in a Farewell pack ride for their friend and colleague, Jason Hause.

Child Abuser Michael Abo Sentenced 7.5 Years in Oregon Prison

This case has saddened much of Yamhill County.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Michael Abo Michael Abo pleaded Guilty on Wednesday. He is guilty of beating a 4-year old boy nearly to death on New Year’s Eve 2013. The abuse caused permanent, life-altering damage to his girlfriend’s young son, which he admits to.

This week, he was sentenced 7.5 years for his crime. Some say, not nearly long enough.

A father-son team, Stuart and Cedar Anderson, from Australia has been perfecting their idea for ten years, and it's been in use in experimental bee yards for three years. They began a Crowdfunding campaign yesterday, asking for $70,000.

In ONE day, they raised $2,155,661 USD, which is 3,080% of their goal, with 41 days left (campaign closes April 5).

Bonnie King`s career is unique, she is one of the few media professionals who has extensive time in four relevant areas; radio, television, newspaper and Internet. She has been with Salem-News.com since August 2004.

Her television career began in 1988, at Lincoln City, Oregon`s cable TV station, TV 10, in dual roles as News Anchor and Sales/Promotion Director. This was a natural evolution of her journalistic aspirations, since she was first "bit by the bug" while serving as Editor in Chief of her high school yearbook for two years. She graduated from Bassist College in Portland, Oregon in 1986.

Bonnie has interviewed legends like Aaron Spelling, Hugh Miles and Peter Frampton; Nadia Komenich, the feisty Judge Mills Lane, and the stars from CHARMED, FELICITY, ROSWELL, 7TH HEAVEN and BUFFY the VAMPIRE SLAYER. She has interviewed Oregon`s governors and congressmen, and she was part of the award-winning NBC news crew that first spoke to Evander Holyfield the night of the notorious Tyson ear-biting incident.

Her first full length documentary, `Fallen Fortress at Cape Lookout` aired on Oregon Public Broadcasting in 1993, for which she was the Producer. She is presently working on two Oregon based historical documentaries, and is an integral force in civil and human rights causes.

Bonnie has served in a number of positions in the broadcast industry; TV Production Manager at KVWB (Las Vegas WB) and Producer/Director for the TV series "Hot Wheels in Las Vegas" (2 seasons); TV Promotion Director for KYMA (NBC), and KFBT (Ind.); Asst. Marketing Director (SUPERSHOPPER MAGAZINE); Director/Co-Host (Coast Entertainment Show); Promotion Director (KBCH/KCRF Radio); and, Newspapers In Education/Circulation Sales Manager (STATESMAN JOURNAL NEWSPAPER).

Bonnie has a depth of understanding that reaches further than just behind the scenes, and that thoroughness of her nature is demonstrated in the perseverance to correctly present each story with the wit and wisdom necessary to compel and captivate viewers.
