Bosworth search: Trucking companies, Facebook friends/Twitter followers call hospitals, Saturday ride

New efforts to find Mark Bosworth; ride to support Mark and his family.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Family and friends are joined by strangers and trucking companies in the desperate search to find Mark Bosworth. Mark, age 54, disappeared on September 16th, in Riddle, Oregon while volunteering with Cycle Oregon. Mark’s doctor believes the cancer he has successfully battled twice is back and has moved to his brain. The pressure on the brain will put pressure on the brain stem and begin shutting down his vital organs.

Trucking companies assisting in urgent search for Mark

May Trucking, Market Transport and Sysco are alerting all their drivers today to look for Mark. “Because we are alerting all our members today, more trucking companies will be doing the same very soon,” said Debra Dunn, president, Oregon Trucking Associations. “We are on the road at all hours, every day of the week, thus hope one of the drivers will see Mark.”

“We urge everyone to double their efforts and really appreciate the trucking companies and the trucking association’s assistance,” said Roberta Altstadt, spokeswoman for the Bosworth family.

Find Mark Facebook friends/Twitter followers answer the call for help

Family, friends and strangers are calling hospitals in the hopes that Mark is already getting treatment at a hospital, but is checked in under a wrong name or as a John Doe. Using Facebook and Twitter, organizers with the Find Mark effort have put out the call for help and people are responsing. It is amazing to hear from complete strangers who are willing to jump on the phone to help.

Calls have gone to hospitals in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Montana, Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota and Minnesota, with the aim to reach all 48 contiguous states.

Route for Saturday’s bike ride for Mark released

Cycle Oregon director Jerry Norquist has organized a bike ride to raise awareness and support Mark and his family. Rain or shine, we hope people will come out to show their support. The ride will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, beginning and ending at North Portland’s Peninsula Park, 700 North Rosa Parks Way. The ride will wind 9.6 miles along North Portland streets and paths. Following the ride, people are encouraged to have a picnic lunch at the park.

Still hoping to see Mark again

Mark’s wife Julie and their daughters Kelly and Claire are dealing with the emotional impact of knowing he is so sick and not being able to find him. They still do hold on to hope that he will be found within the next few days.

If anyone sees Mark, please approach him and call 911. He will be suffering severe headaches and may be acting withdrawn and unresponsive. If anyone believes they may have seen him in the past, they need to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 541-957-2099. There is a $10,000 reward for information that leads us to Mark.
