(TIGARD, Ore.) - The Westside Crime Prevention Coalition (WCPC) will present a training opportunity to rental property owners and managers on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. John Campbell will present the eight-hour training session titled "Keeping Illegal Activity Off Rental Properties" at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 SW 5th Street in Beaverton. It will begin at 8:30AM and continue until 4:30PM in the first floor conference center. The cost is $35.00 which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and a training manual. The training curriculum is adapted from a nationally recognized program developed by Campbell. The need for this training came to mind after Campbell was embattled in his own neighborhood in a struggle with criminals seemingly overtaking the area. The idea was then developed specifically for rental properties in efforts to enhance their safety and create more desirable neighborhoods. The program helps rental property managers, owners and landlords maintain a safe and attractive property while taking steps to reduce the opportunity for crime and related problems. Information about tenant screening, physical elements such as landscaping and maintenance, warning signs of drug dealing and usage, as well as the application process are included in the training. This training is helpful to anyone who rents residential property-especially newcomers who may be unfamiliar with the recommended measures needed to avoid headaches later. "WCPC" is a group of crime prevention and community resource officers representing six law enforcement agencies in Washington County. The group works together to problem solve for all areas within the county. Providing training to property managers is just one of many different programs developed by the group. Information and registration forms are available at www.tigard-or.gov. or by calling 503-846-2579. In addition, WCPC also provides an on-going, year-round, free monthly forum for rental property owners and mangers to learn about additional methods to keep their properties managed effectively. Check the website above for more information about this opportunity as well. I think this is some BS. Except the landscaping part... Slumlords need to learn to keep up their rentals much, much better. Profiling is extremely bad for society. So are gangs. This seems like a 'neutral' approach and not a 'positive' one. Landlords cannot take the place of a strong community simply because they own the property. Nonsense. Community building is the key, talk to your neighbors. "Can there ever really be justice on stolen land?"-KRS ONE

They should call it how to discriminate and force certain groups of people into slums where they can keep them down . Oh it sounds good but if I didnt own a home nobody would rent to me except in the dirtiest holes in town and mabey not even there . Teaching and encouraging landlords to look for "signs " of crime and how to kick tenants out legally creating hardship for them is just another form of profiling . Washington county is famous for "cleaning up" thier area ,posting medical marijuana growers and users on thier web site and so many other abuses I really dont have time to explain . These guys have zero respect for citizens rights or the law ,this is a county where they are "the law". Peace
