Sep-28-2009 01:28TweetFollow @OregonNews Fatal Crash Near Grants Pass May Be Result of Fatigue, Police SaySalem-News.comWhile the investigation is ongoing, police say it appears that driver fatigue may have been a factor in the crash.
(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - One person died and three others were injured Sunday afternoon in a single vehicle crash on Highway 199 thirty-eight miles south of Grants Pass. Oregon State Police Sergeant Mark A. Byrd says Sunday at approximately 5:06 p.m., a gold 1983 Mercedes 4-door sedan driven by 48-year Avi N. Livingstone of Redway, California was traveling southbound on Highway 199 near milepost 38. The Mercedes veered off the right shoulder of the highway and struck a tree. Avi Livingstone died at the scene of the crash. Ms. Livingstone's daughter, 8-year old Hana Goodkind, was seated in the right front passenger seat and sustained serious injuries. Goodkind was transported to Rogue Valley Hospital in Medford for treatment. Ms. Livingston's's son 12-year old Ilan Goodheart, was seated in the right rear passenger seat and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Three rivers Hospital in Grants Pass. 21-year old Tosh M. Mason of Lopez Island, Washington was seated in the left rear passenger seat. Mason was transported to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass for treatment of minor injuries. All of the occupants were wearing safety restraints. Oregon State Police Troopers from the Grants Pass Worksite and the Central Point Area Command are conducting the crash investigation. While the investigation is ongoing, it appears that driver fatigue may have been a factor in the crash. OSP was assisted at the crash the scene by Oregon Department of Transportation, the Illinois Valley Fire Department, AMR Ambulance Service and the Jackson County Medical Examiners office.

Ilan is a friend of mine. As a matter of fact, he's in my second period class and the fact that someone like him had to deal with such a tradegy like this is terrible.

I understand Hana is going back to school today. She is our granddaughters good friend. Please pray for her to be able to have a happy day, a good life and adjust with lots of love from God, family and friends. It is all so sad and makes my heart so heavy.

Oh jeez, you can see stumps where trees had previously been cut down right next to that one. Very sad. Hoping for a full recovery for those injured.
