(KEIZER) - Officers from the Keizer Police Department and Keizer Fire Department responded to a reported spill of an unknown substance along the stretch of Willow Lake RD N at about the 1100 block. Upon arrival, it was determined that the spill was much bigger then was initially reported and it covered about a three block stretch of roadway and because it was airborne, it continued to disperse over a larger area. Due to the fact that it was airborne and it was an unknown substance Police and Fire declared it a Hazmat area and a unified command was established between police and fire. During the incident information was developed that the substance was taken from a burglary that occurred from a business during the early morning hours. From that information two juveniles were identified, interviewed and charged with one count of burglary and one count of criminal mischief each. Both Juveniles, a 14 –year old and a 12-year old boy, were cited and released to their parents who were cooperative with the investigation. Both Police and Fire exhausted all resources during this incident to assure that there were no public health risks. All neighbors in the area were contacted in a door-to-door effort and given information in regards to the incident. Keizer Police are asking that if anyone has any questions regarding hazmat questions to please contact Keizer Fire. If any questions are in regards to the cleaning up of the substance, we are asking you to contact the below listed number that was referred by the manufacture.
