Middle East Peace: Israeli Peace Activist Presentation

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Gila Svirtsky, prominent Israeli writer and peace activist, will be giving a talk titled "Paths to Peace in Palestine/Israel" on Tuesday, September 29th at 7:00pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis, 2945 Circle Blvd.

She will speak from her personal experiences as an activist and briefly lay out the problems, discuss the stumbling blocks and her vision of viable and pragmatic elements of paths to peace in the region.

Svirtsky is the co-founder of the Coalition of Women for Peace in Israel, which brings together nine Israeli women's peace organizations as well as a co-founder of Women in Black.

In addition she is chair of B'Tselem, Israel's foremost human rights organization in the Occupied Territories.

She is a board member of the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel, a program sponsored by the World Council of Churches that brings people of all faiths to accompany Palestinians and Israelis in their non-violent actions for peace.

Jean Townes, a member of the Peace Action Council at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis, wants to extend an invitation to the community to attend the event.
