9/11 Reflections Part 2: Interview with Simon Shack of September Clues

Out of 2,970 9/11 victims listed, only 446 appear in the Social Security death index. Of those only 249 have a confirmed death certificate on file. Maybe Simon Shack is not as crazy as it would seem at first glance.

(EUGENE, ORE.) - Simon Shack is emphatic: “nobody died on September eleventh.” I am talking to him in Rome, via Skype. He has recently asked me if I believe that the moon landing was real, laughing derisively.

To put this in context, Simon Shack is not talking in general about any given September 11. 300,000 people around the world die every single day. Simon Shack is referring, in particular, to the media event known as 9/11. The World Trade Center. All of that. These 3,000 people, who died on television in the United States, occupy a sanctified position not enjoyed by the other 99% of the people who died on September 11, 2001.

They are the casus belli for the longest and most disastrous wars in the history of the United States. Simon Shack is convinced that these 3,000 odd people never existed.

Simon Shack will tell you that nobody actually died on television. There is almost no evidence of any fatalities whatsoever. Only a few bone fragments and rumors that thousands of bodies were “vaporized.”

Simon Shack believes, sincerely and based on serious evidence, that nobody died in the events known as the “9/11 terrorist attacks.” He believes that the entire event was a hoax propagated by means of the modern mass media. The evidence that Simon Shack has compiled to support this theory rests in a documentary film series “September Clues” and at the website septemberclues.info.

The September Clues series is a compilation of evidence of lies, deceit, the use of green screens, computer generated imagery (CGI), and fake video and audio in the live network broadcasts from September 11, 2001, and in supposed amateur recordings of the events of that day.

The proofs of fakery that Simon presents include: Strong evidence of the use of a CGI plane in the “live” Fox broadcast.

The “live” Fox broadcast has been replaced, in the “official archive” on the internet, with a re-edited fake version compiled from the broadcasts from other stations.

Strong evidence that NBC replaced their “live” shot of the second airplane hitting the tower with a CGI version of the same shot, which was shown on the evening news on September 11.

Irrefutable evidence that the evening news shot on NBC of the plane hitting the tower was accompanied by a fake studio soundtrack.

Irrefutable evidence that the fake soundtrack from the NBC nightly news contained audio samples identical to the ones found in two supposedly amateur videos of planes hitting the World Trade Center Tower.

Irrefutable evidence that background scenery - such as birds, helicopters, and bridges – were inserted into “live” broadcasts using CGI, and could not possibly be real.

It is on the strength of this kind of evidence that Simon Shack makes, what appear to be, some very outlandish claims about what actually occurred in New York on September 11.

The logic is: if the live broadcasts were faked, and the amateur videos were faked, and there is conclusive evidence of the same fake material being used in both the live broadcasts and the amateur videos, then there must be a single source that produced most, if not all, of the faked media material that purports to depict planes flying into the World Trade Center towers in New York.

How this was all accomplished is unknown. What Simon Shack presents is simply evidence of the video fakery. He is an investigator looking at the remnants of a crime scene that has not only been manipulated and disturbed, but in his opinion, faked entirely.

Simon’s thinking goes like this: if the video from September 11 was faked, then the only plausible reason to fake it would be to conceal the fact that no commercial airliners hit the WTC towers.

This reasoning jibes with numerous strong proofs that the destruction of the WTC buildings resulted from the use of pre-planted explosives and a controlled demolition. It also fits well with strong proofs that a commercial airliner did not hit the Pentagon.

If you break down these theories, it makes no sense that commercial airliners would hit the WTC, but not the Pentagon. It makes no sense that you would have both a controlled demolition at the WTC complex and commercial airliners hitting the buildings.

If a person was going to take down the WTC with a controlled demolition, they would not use hijacked commercial airliners as part of this plot. This would be redundant, and it would introduce unacceptable levels of risk, because if the hijackings failed there would be no viable explanation for why the buildings had collapsed. Thus, either there were no airplanes, or there was no controlled demolition.

Once you see September Clues, the evidence of airplanes looks very weak. The evidence for controlled demolition has always been strong, but it has been counterbalanced by the video of planes hitting the buildings, which renders the idea of controlled demolition nonsensical.

Over the past decade a great deal of attention has been paid to the events of September 11, 2001.

In the first part of this series, The Elephant and the Mosquito, I showed how political leaders and the media used the events of September 11 as part of a concerted propaganda plan to promote the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, along with an increase in the militarization of Asia and the Middle-East generally. This propaganda was based on the myths of Al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban, and Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, which the media bought and sold willingly and with full knowledge of their falsehood.

The purpose of The Elephant and the Mosquito was to show how the simple magic trick of misdirection works on the massive stage provided by modern mass media.

Simon Shack’s work goes a step further by showing just how easy it is to broadcast fake video and audio and pretend that it is real, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

The brave new world of “news,” where the same company (News Corp) that produces films that convincingly depict the White House and Empire State Building being blown to bits by alien death rays (Independence Day) also produces your nightly news cast, is truly one where the phrase caveat emptor applies.

Talking with Simon, we discussed the fact that television is fundamentally a technology designed to mass produce illusions. The perfection of this technology of illusion to the point that entirely simulated realities can be created raises serious questions for a society that depends on media to maintain social order.

These are not new questions, but they are raised under new circumstances. False pretenses for war have been manufactured by politicians and generals since the beginning of recorded history.

The “Golf of Tonkin incident,” one of the pretexts for the Vietnam War, is a good recent example. The entire “Cold War,” in retrospect, appears to be primarily an adventure in lies, deception, paranoia, and propaganda.

What is different now is that the media stage has changed, society has changed, and the sophistication of the population has changed. It is no longer good enough for the President to go on TV and denounce the enemy. People have learned to treat politicians like used car salesmen and ask for the proof.

If a politician or a general wants to start a war under false pretenses today, just as politicians and generals have done for millennia, then they have to work with the toolkit that is available to them. The assassination of an unwanted official, and the production of an agent from the enemy camp who willingly confesses to the crime, simply will not cut it anymore.

To manufacture a pretext for war in the modern era you need to connect with the entire population, which means that you must use television, and you must create a televised spectacle with suitable dramatic impact to galvanize the public for the costs of war.

In the first Iraq war, the one in 1993, both politicians and the media engaged in hoaxes and frauds to sell that war to the public. Foremost amongst these was the lie about Iraqi soldiers throwing Kuwaiti babies out of their incubators and onto the floor of a Kuwaiti hospital’s maternity ward^[1].

This lie was told by the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States. A fact conveniently overlooked by the media.

It goes without question that the President, intelligence agencies, and any congress person who cared would have known exactly who this girl was, and that her claims were an absurd fantasy. The media certainly should have known, and if they did not, it would be another case of the willfully ignorant bliss that seems to be so common with them.

Throwing babies out of incubators is some absurdly evil stuff, but some of the absurdities spun around the events of September 11 are equally audacious. Simon Shack draws attention to the story of the “missing persons” fliers in New York as a prime example of absurd manufactured propaganda. The story is that thousands of people put up tens of thousands of fliers in New York to try and locate lost love ones.

Simon’s response to this is that “people put up fliers when they lose a dog.” His point is that in a civilized society people call the police when they are missing family members. He concludes that the fliers in New York must be a hoax, simply because they are so absurd.

Watch Wag the Dog. The part where they throw old shoes on telephone lines. It might ring a bell. I asked Simon how he got into producing September Clues, a video series that clearly took an enormous amount of work and time to compile. He described sensing an “aura” in people, regarding the topic of the September 11 events. He observed that people felt that something was not right, and that “many expected that it was a hoax, but didn’t know how it was done.”

As a person with experience in video editing and production, Simon noticed some obvious problems in the September 11 broadcast footage, and began to systematically break it down and review it. Simon released the first version of September Clues on the internet in 2007.

Contrarian viewpoints on September 11 have found fertile ground on the internet. Simon dismisses much of the “9/11 Truth” material, particularly Loose Change and Alex Jones, as “candy for the conspiracy theorists.”

What is true about most of the “9/11 Truth” material is that while it criticizes the story told in the mainstream media on specific points, it largely serves to maintain the key myths of the mainstream story. The role of the September 11 events in creating fear that can be channeled into aggressive military action is unchanged.

Conspiracy theorists, whether on Fox News talking about Osama Bin Laden, or on Alex Jones’ radio show talking about the new world order, are doing the exact same thing. They are selling people the illusion of imaginary enemies, in order to make them afraid, and make them malleable by means of their fear.

Conspiracy theorist used to be a dirty word in American political discourse. At this point, faith in political and corporate institutions has collapsed to the point that people only argue over the relevant merits of various “brands” or “flavors” of popular conspiracy theories.

There is the one conspiracy theory about a few dozen Arabs, commanded from a cave in Afghanistan, who hijacked four planes on September 11.

Somebody else points out that the leader of these Arabs is a former CIA asset and that his family are major business partners with the Bush family who own shares in many leading American defense companies. At this point, absurdity has already fallen by the wayside, and any intellectual discourse enters the twilight zone. Conspiracy theories are excellent propaganda tools for stifling legitimate debate.

The mass repetition of absurdity in public discourse drives away honest participants and creates a grossly obese body of lies that must be dug through before any truth can be extracted from the mess.

Conspiracy theories are hardly the province of lone gunman nuts these days. The “Global Warming Hoax” conspiracy theory has been funded and propagated by Exxon and other major oil companies for decades. Fox News has been more than happy to report on conspiracy theories about a “socialist,” “Marxist,” “fascist” takeover of America by “Obama.” The conspiracy theory about “death panels” as a part of Federal health care reform got plenty of traction.

When the producers of mass media abandon the idea that there is a true objective reality, that it is their duty to report on, then their product becomes worthless. At that point, you are reduced to selling lies, and your dubious accomplishments are measured only by the money you have made and the audacity of the lies you have sold.

In the industry of professional liars, actors, stage magicians, petty hustlers, and con artists the product is a lie, and the profit is in selling an illusion. Honor and dignity must be checked at the door. It is by no accident that the Romans ranked actors as the social equals of prostitutes. One sells their body, the other sells their soul. The two things are not so different.

Every news program is a theatrical production, staged, scripted, and delivered by professional actors. The actors who perform in these productions are no different than the actors who perform in a Hollywood movie. They are even employed by the same companies. Should it come as a surprise that they rely on the same special effects techniques to create their props?

If the companies, such as Cantor Fitzgerald and Morgan Stanley, that lost so many employees on September 11, should happen to be involved in massive financial frauds involving hundreds of billions of dollars, should that come as any surprise?

Is it any surprise that all of the stock market frauds, bubbles, and collapses have been happily cheered on by the entirety of the mass media? And if those media companies happen to be owned by the same banks and industrial conglomerates that profit from this activity, who should be surprised?

Is it any surprise that nobody in the media bothered to report on the lies about Bin Laden, the Taliban, and Iraqi weapons of mass destruction? Is it any surprise that they blithely repeat every manor of proven lie and falsehood about Iran?

The media is full of lies. That is easy to point out. But what is the truth? How could Simon Shack prove that people who never existed didn’t really die? You can’t prove a negative.

Simon Shack’s challenge is simple: “show me real proof that somebody died in the WTC towers on September 11.”

Simon boldly declares that “nobody died on September 11” because he wants to be challenged. He actually wants to get to truth. He is hoping to stimulate a reaction that will result in the revelation of new facts that will flesh out the details of a real history of our modern era that will stand in contrast to the fake history created by the Platonic mythmakers in politics and the media.

So far, Simon Shack’s call has gone unheeded. September Clues has been seen by a million people or more, but it languishes in obscurity by contrast to the “candy for conspiracy theorists” such as Loose Change, and Alex Jones. So, what about the official victims?

I did an exhaustive check of the list of victims provided on the CNN website. What I found is that out of 2,970 people listed, only 446 appear in the Social Security death index. Of those only 249 have a confirmed death certificate on file. Of those, not a single one has a valid “last address of record” on file. That is a lot of clerical error, or maybe Simon Shack is not as crazy as it would seem at first glance^[2].

Don't let incomplete reporting result in the furtherance of a stupid conspiracy theory. As far as Simon Shack is concerned; he runs the September Clues forum as a place devoted to yes man who pat him on the back for the "facts" he makes up. If a person registers with the forum and disagrees with any of their theories, they are banned. I was banned years ago because I refused to admit that the Apollo moon landings were a hoax.

No I don't think SShack is crazy either, having been blown away (no pun) by his investigating, documenting, and of course the movie (September Clues) itself, which I didn't quite discover until 2012. I then spent two years reading just about every post in Cluesforum....And I remain grateful to him and his work. At least I have been freed from doubt with regard to any official veracity as to what happened on "9/11." I am free to get on with my life amidst this ridiculously contrived government and power structure we must live within. Thanks for your follow up investigating. Those 249 'persons' you found with a Death certificate are likely phony themselves, as part of a belated effort to further "legitimize" the 2,970.

I have watched your September Clues production in its entirety and was very impressed; however, I've come across this article and another article purportedly written by you http://onebornfree-mythbusters.blogspot.com/2010/01/911-hoax-pondering-questions-of.html that indicates you may believe that there were “Zero casualties” as a result of the 9/11 attacks. Is that you're position? No firefighters died? No stockbrokers or other WTC personnel? The "Jersey Girls" are part of the deception?

Hey! Great article! September Clues is probably the most important movie ever made to date- as it reveals the disgusting extent our media has turned on us and how our own government (more specifically an international cabal) is the source of most of the evil in this world- and they'll use smoke and mirrors to deceive the global population in order to kill. After watching September Clues a few times, the viewer realizes the entire media is corrupted and being controlled. Not only that- the entire mainstream 9/11 truth movement is also a controlled opposition group who's purpose is to misslead people, close off conversation, and obsfuscate the facts. Why is it Alex Jones can't figure out a 767 can't fly 550 MPH at sea-level (200 MPH faster than it's maximum speed at that altitude)? It's very simple. Thanks for writing this, hoping for more!

We like to watch movies for their entertainment value, we are after all mere humans with a need to be amused. Inside every movie we have ever watched, if we take the time to slow it down, frame by frame, we will discover the artifacts of imperfection, because after all, we are but mere humans. We do make mistakes. Simon is thankfully working on seeking out these artifacts of human error, and presenting them before us on a plate. Let me now fast forward to a place "n" number of years away from now, where the weight of concealment becomes too heavy for the participants of the 9/11 movie to bear, and let us all watch once again with our popcorn and coke while glued to our television sets, the millions of angry human heat seeking missiles rip to tatters the perpetrators who raped our souls via our very own eyes. I specifically was referring to the statement that no one died on 9/11. As for folks in planes, I only knew two folks on the planes, Donald and Jean Peterson, from Spring Lake, NJ---they were on Flight 93. Ironically, I had been scheduled for Fligh 93 orginally, but switched my flight and flew UA Flight 81 that day (EWR-SFO)which left at 7:00 a.m. and was grounded in Lincoln, Nebraska. Flight 93 left after us. Peterson's made a similar switch, but unfortunately to the wrong earlier flight.

I personally know 20+ people, including my nephew, that were murdered on 9/11. For Ersun Warncke to cover this story, is to support a view that the fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters of firms like Sandler O' Neill, Eurobrokers and Cantor Fitzerald never existed. These are people whose weddings I have, attended, whose children I have held in my arms as babies. I would like to invite Mr. Warncke to attend a memorial ceremony at the trading floor of Cantor next September 11. HE can interview current employees about the "simulated victims" that they called colleagues, friends, and blood brothers and sisters. He better hope Obamacare exists.

I've ALWAYS thought something looked off about the imagery. The so-called "truthers" are just spinning their wheels and the vast majority of the world and scientific community see them as just wilderness wandering loons. So delude yourselves all you want, it's a free country given to you by combat patriots so you all can live free and think up all the dumb fantasies to your heart's desire. You guys have such thin skin, and debating with actual facts is something you just are not capable of.

It's an excepted truism that what led our ancestors out of the "Dark Ages" was the continuing acceptance and development of the "Scientific Method." Prior to the scientific method's development, superstition, or something similar, pretty much set cultural core belief systems. The latter would best be described as the anti- scientific method. Which is pretty much like saying "That's what I think, so that's how it is." It's pretty easy to see why those who think like the latter have a perspective that now days few educated people embrace, not counting the "leap of faith" requirement that religions call for.

I've read endless stories on 9/11 and besides seeing what I saw on television, plus talking to eye witnesses in New York and the Pentagon, for my money the poster below provided the most relevant link. These are university engineers and have essentially provided objective scientific proof with expert analyis. Whereas all the "truthers" just offer typical conspiracy mumbo jumbo that is just unsupportable on a scientific level. At first I thought this was all political and once Bush left office this would wane and fade away. I believe many of the truther's have some other matters they need addressing, but I doubt they will ever deal with that, so as time marches on their little group gets smaller and smaller. Those of us who have followed this from day one know Purdue is involved at high levels, that was obvious from the time of the first Popular Mechanics article. Checkmate in three moves, by Simon Shack:

- Can a plane crash through a 64m steel building and its cockpit emerge from it unscathed on the other side?
- Can a plane crash into a wall and its 'wing print' appear only 6 seconds later?
- Can a plane indeed crash into a steel building without shredding parts at impact?

The obvious answer to these questions is "no" - and that is amply sufficient to determine the falsity of the proposed footage.

Plato's description of a fire behind the audience, casting a shadow created by an image being held up in front of the fire, and being so realistic that the cave dwellers mistake it for reality, no longer seems so far fetched when you look at the contemporary image projection technology, the TV and the big screen as well as the nonsense foolish contests of sports/lifestyle/etc. the contemporary captives are called to participate in; even though Plato's book was written a good 2,400 years ago (and it was about an idea conceived even before).

It is obvious that this parable is a solid proof that the manipulators of human perception have not changed their principal tactics since then and the unthinking majority is still falling for the same machination...

9/11 has become a new religion. Members of this sect believe that a cave-dweller sent some hijackers who crashed some planes into some buildings and killed 3000 patriots. How do the know that this is true? Live TV footage cannot be real, and cannot be used as evidence. It is so fake that even a child can see this. Just look at the backdrop! It isn't there! It is not hard at all to understand that this is fake as hell. Well, if the lied about the planes and hijackers in their fake live news, why not lie about the victims? They do not need victims if they control media and can simulate everything on a computer and replay what they want us to believe hundreds of times. The evidence for this fairytale isn't there, so you have to believe like in any other faith to go along with all this nonsense.

Good point about the Social Security. I used the death list to look for Barbara Olson and the Pennsylvania crash hero and there was none. After that the list was taken down so "terrorists couldn't use it for faking a name" or some shit. The flight hijackers are alive and the heroes are not dead or else died years before. However, lots of people did die and are still dieing from the dust. So who is debating 9/11 truth at this stage? Either you "get it" or you will forever have your head up your ass.

Have you ever watched a controlled demo? It's very clean, the building implodes on its own weight and goes down clean, I dunno about you but if you watch the collapse of the Towers nothing about it is clean, there are steel beams flying out in all directions, huge chunks of the skin/facade of the building are falling off to all sides. When WTC collapsed it took out other structures. Why? Because the building wasn't a controlled demolition, it didn't implode on itself like a normal controlled demo. Big difference between science/facts and theory/speculation. Hey anon, I appreciate the note. I am not trying to push any agenda here. I am really just trying to highlight how deep the disaffection with the official story on 9/11 goes, and trying to present facts for what they are. I don't think about my writing as helping or hurting any particular camp, but only about presenting stories that are interesting to me and provide some food for thought. When I encountered September Clues and decided to do a story on it, I researched it on the internet, so I know that there is a lot of hostility to Simon Shack in some quarters. I take that into account, but as a journalist I have to present facts for what they are. The facts that Simon has highlighted are difficult to dispute. The suppositions that you make on those facts can vary, but I just want to present the facts, and I dont think that it can ever be harmful to present the truth for what it is. Simon has proof of faked audio and video. That doesn't mean that his suppositions based on those proofs are correct, but the proof of fakery does not change. That fakery tells a lot about the American media, regardless of how you interpret it.

The fact is, I have been trying to get 911 truth out for 9 years, and have always been careful what to say. Maybe, or maybe not simon is true, but in all honesty, it does hurt my cause, and wish you would focus on AE911truth, and building 7. I always wondered if that was the testing and setting up of the radio beacon for what I believe were radio-guided airplanes. I think that planes did indeed hit the towers, but were radio-guided. If total visual control of the wider Manhattan area was a top priority of the 9/11 psyop, it would have been essential to impede any authentic footage to be captured in NY that morning. Electromagnetic weaponry (EMP/HERF or HPM) is routinely used in war zones to jam the enemy’s electronics. Conceivably, this technology was used to prevent any private footage being recorded throughout the limited (102min) time-window in which the defining 9/11 events took place (from first "plane" strike to last tower collapse). To be sure, the research into this field has long been a top military priority: with this in mind, we may reasonably consider that this well-tested technology was employed on 9/11. In any case, an electromagnetic "storm" would keep any private cameras from operating. Only special cameras shielded in protective faraday-cages would function.

I am not writing to try and prove one point or the other. The simple matter of fact is that September Clues shows very strong proofs of video and audio fakery. That is a proposition that you can dispute based on evidence, if you care to, but it is separate from ancillary issues, such as pushing any particular ideological agenda. Vic, as to the amateur videos of planes hitting the towers, that is a key part of what Simon digs into. He has found identical audio samples in two of the amateur videos that match an audio sample used in the NBC nightly news broadcast video. I would judge this to be absolute proof of forgery in the audio tracks. How/Why NBC nightly news would have a forged audio track that matches forged audio tracks in supposed amateur videos is speculation, but the fact of the matching audio samples does not change, no matter what you speculate.

Seems to me this is an easy one to prove or disprove. After the first plane hit, thoudands of personal cameras and cell phone/cameras were pointed at the twin towers. Did these cameras record the second plane hitting? That would seem to settle it.

Thanks for the comments. What I am focused on here is reporting the highly credible evidence of video and audio fakery that Simon Shack has uncovered. That is an objective fact. How you interpret those facts is up to you. If anything, I think this material should remind people that when they are watching news on tv, they are watching an entertainment program with a script and paid actors, and they should not expect much more. It is also important to remember how the economics of tv works: broadcasters attract viewers and make money by selling those viewers to the highest bidder. Pimping out their viewers to propagandists is the core business of television broadcasters. How moral and ethical do you really think they are?

I kinda think the flight 93 was shot down. This is why I just stick to building 7, the conspiracy theories are out of control, including, IMHO, the theory of no planes hitting the twin towers. Sorry :-) My opinion, is that coming up with no planes hitting the towers, hurts those who focus on the reality of building 7. Focus on building 7 my friend. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the link James. Im Stephen, nice to meet you. This article brought about several thoughts, some I agree, some I dont. I focus more on building 7, and the nano-thermite found, and the molten steel. Kinda the smoking guns, whereas, other theories can be broken quite easily. The lack of death certificates etc. can easily be explained away by government paperwork incompetence. Building 7, nano-thermite on a world respected peer review website, and collapsing in its own footprint at freefall speed cannot be disputed. Altho, I think alex jones, yes a sensationalist, and fear monger, rude, arrogant, boisterous etc., has brought much truth and is smart as a whip, and great documentaries. His accuracy rate and predictions are near perfect. I do wish he would shut for a few minutes tho :-) Thanks again for the link James, and for those who insulted Ersun, without any type of information, well, with all due respect, its not very productive. Yes, this article by Ersun Warncke is very good -- about the lies, the myths, and about misleaders such as Alex Jones. That said, it's a little to sad to see that the claim of "nobody died on 9/11" played up. Hundreds died for sure. The World Trade Center buildings were not empty of people, and those buildings did come down. Please don't undermine intelligent truthtelling by allowing such a claim any prominence.
