(ALBANY, OR) - Lightening, a fitting name for a carousel horse lovingly hand crafted by volunteers, many of whom are veterans, will be striding through the Albany Veterans Day parade, Saturday, November 10th.

The Albany Historic Carousel and Museum entry will be joined by upwards of 225 other entries making this once again, the largest Veterans Day Parade west of the Mississippi. With parade applications now coming in, this is the first peek at who will be honoring all our veterans over the Veterans Day weekend in November.

Under the theme “Veterans, Always Ready – Always Serving”, Joseph “Papa” Novak will lead off the parade as this year’s Grand Marshal.

The parade, organized by the Veterans Commemoration Association and presented by Greenberry and the family of Jim Barrett will begin preciously at 11:00 am. Traditionally always held on Veterans Day, it is also tradition that when November 11th falls on a Sunday, the Albany Veterans Day parade is rescheduled for Saturday, the 10th.

Anyone in need of an application can request one by calling the Veterans Commemoration Association at 541-981-2390 or by emailing their request to albanyveteransdayparade@gmail.com.  Applications are available until Wednesday, October 31st.

This will give the parade organizers the time needed to finalize the alignment and staging to ensure a safe parade for all. For up to date information, visit them on facebook at:  facebook.com/veteransdayparadeAlbanyOR
