PALESTINE, Not Just a Name!

Another unforgettable view of Palestine in words and photos.

Palestinian Diaspora

(LONDON) - Some of our most spectacular and memorable entries are the products of Nahida Izzat, who lives in London, but began her life in Palestine, a life that the Israeli system of war and occupation brought to a screeching halt.

Like so many before throughout history, Nahida and her family had to flee Palestine during the 1967 'Six Day War' and by becoming a refugee, she was thus denied her own homeland for the majority of her life.

This has not stopped Nahida from returning to Palestine.

It also has not prevented or blocked her from expressing her clear thoughts about the impacts Israeli apartheid has had on all Palestinians.

This population is a diverse group, and the lasting consequences faced by all people in this tragic period that began in 1948 during one of the largest Diasporas that the world has ever witnessed, have never gone away, only increased.

Palestinians

No more, a bunch of refugees;

Palestinians

Not a mere oppressed and dispossessed, struggling for survival

Palestinians

A symbol of courage, determination, endurance and inspiration

for every bullied individual and every oppressed nation

Palestinians

Holders of the torch of justice,

Seekers of freedom

professors of endurance

Teachers of dignity

Callers to humanity,

Longing for an egalitarian society

Seeking liberation from a ruthless minority

Of  predatory, oppressive warmongering elite

Palestine

No more, a mere geographical location

Palestine

No longer a decaying chapter in a book of history

Palestine

A poignant story,

A beautiful vision,

 A passionate cause,

 An exquisite poem,

 A Melody of freedom

 An inspirational idea,

 A moral concept

 that could never be destroyed

Special thanks to Uprooted Palestinians

Nahida Izzat is a Jerusalem-born Palestinian refugee who has lived in exile for over forty two years, after being forced to leave her homeland at the tender age of seven in 1967, during the six-day war. She has a degree in mathematics, but art is one of her favorite pastimes. She loves hand-made things and so makes dolls, cards, and most of her own clothes. She also writes poetry, participates in written dialogues and believes in building bridges, not walls.

She started writing when her friends insisted she should write about her memories, experiences and feelings as a Palestinian. When she did it all came out sounding—she was told—like poetry! So she self-published two books: I Believe in Miracles, and Palestine the True Story.

Her dream is to return back home to a free and liberated Palestine.

If you like poetry and are intrigued by the notion of learning more about Palestine, you can visit Nahida's blog Poetry for Palestine for more of her writings; prose, poems, letters and dialogues.
