Oct-27-2008 07:00TweetFollow @OregonNews China Expert Hayward Warns Against Obama's 'Socialist' Plan For America (VIDEO)Bonnie King Salem-News.comAn interview with Al Hayward, 25-year China expert, who says his opinions about Obama won't be popular but promises of less work - more money have failed before.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Al Hayward, a 25-year Chinese trade expert, says “you can drown by tipping the canoe too far in either direction”, and he is worried that what he calls Barack Obama’s “socialistic promises” are tipping this country too far toward communism. Al Hayward has lived, worked, and done business in mainland China and other communist countries for decades, and he is currently working on a 20 billion dollar “City of Tomorrow” project near Macau. This weekend as he and the woman he married nearly 20 years ago, Wang Hui, strolled through the streets of Portland’s China town, Al Hayward shared his views with us on the "wrong direction" he sees the U.S. moving in. “I’ve lived under 15 presidents and voted for 8,” Hayward said. “During the great depression the slogan was, ‘An honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work’, I haven’t heard that in this country for 50 years. We’ve been given promises, ‘Elect me and you get more and do less,’ ‘Work less hours and get more pay’. It doesn’t work that way. If you want more, the way I was taught, the way we taught our children, you want more, work more.” "China's great economy boom, as exhibited during the '08 Olympics and hundreds of billions in trade surpluses came about when she adopted American capitalist policies of, “work more-get more” and became a world industrial powerhouse." "I fear that under Obama's plan, America is in great danger of becoming more Communist than Red China is today if in fact it hasn't already happened." Hayward was born and raised in China. Now as an American citizen, she says she wishes more people would appreciate the opportunities the U.S. affords them. Al Hayward says "share and share alike" isn't the answer. "It didn't work in Russia. It didn't work in Eastern Europe. It didn't work in Mainland China. And it won't work in America," Hayward said. "Communism rewards only those people in government, and forces the rest to share their pay with those that did less and too often nothing. 'They pretended to pay us, and we pretended to work. And we all suffered,' a man told me, who once lived under Communist control in Eastern Europe." "Obama scares me. Too many it seems are buying his 'more money for less work for all' campaign. The same propaganda lies used by the Communists and Adolf Hitler to take over nations and control of their people." “I had a film opportunity,” Hayward recalls, “and was doing a film on Mt Everest when I lost my climbing partner; and so, he got in trouble and I took over my backpack from the Sherpa guide, and then I came on back off of Mt Everest alone. Crossed one glacier without ropes, that was a little scary.” “I came down to a fork in the trail, one of them led to China, and one led back to the American base camp. China owns probably half of Mt Everest. They call it Kuma lama (Zhūmùlǎngmǎ Fēng), and so I had a decision: either to go on to ‘communist China’ or come back to the American camp. And fortunately, I guessed right, and came back to the American camp.” “But I see America in this coming election at the same crossroads. They’ve got to decide: do we continue to go down this slippery slope, more socialism, more welfare, less work, more pay, promises that can’t be kept? Or, do we buckle down and just work more and get more? That’s what will bring us back, that’s in essence why I’m here today and why I felt strongly that it was time to stand up and say something regardless of the personal consequences.” The crossroads are being faced by each individual voter, and Al Hayward says he hopes to prevent Americans from taking a trail toward socialism, and what he calls, a road to revolution. Al Hayward for President

Fascism is when the state smears people who ask questions of their so-called leaders. Just ask Joe the Plumber or any professional in the media who asked non-softball questions of Obama/Biden.

P.A.: Yr attitude shows all too clearly, friend P.A. Re attack, implication is the refuge of some who cannot use direct statement, and editors trained to recognize and respond Re "factrs" you supplied, have seen no rebuttal link for your false statements re mcC censure by Senate. Re yr single-shot business, that shows only your experience; George Soros et al run from ten to fifty. Re retirement at 40, must have been glorious-profit, which again shapes yr attitude for those not so fortunate. Re political pandering, that's so obvious needs nothing from me but moreofsame already supplied, which also mirrors McC. and Bush --for whom I see no response from you re the necessity for impeachment to prevent possible further such seditious perpetration. SO, where do you stand on powerful punishment for these obvious perpetrators, NOW ? Or do you suggest we simply forget, forgive, forego change and buy moreofsame ? McC. surely represents precisely that, despite political pandering piled profoundly high by those who stand to gain greatly by continuance of neocon policy and polity.

To LL: JMarra, 1st commenter, was onto something. Here's "see with own eyes" statement from knowledgeable commenter in NYT thread, fits this situation precisely: "...the communists were never really marxist. Not only did Marx’s revolution take place in Russia, an agrarian country and not Germany where predicted, but never was there an equal distribution of wealth. Today the most successful “communist ” country, China, has a capitalistic economy but a totalitarian social system- limited freedom but boundless free enterprise." ------------------ I.E., people power has already pressed Communist leadership very far towards surrender of communist-principle for the democratic approach desired by the people as they learn from exposure to Western ways, ideas and principles. Wait-and-see what happens there for new revolution, now beginning,vs totalitarian power still brutally bent on suppression. Lessons here for us as we recover from neocon return to feudalistic approach leading backwards to fascism. SO trader viewpoint somewhat disabled from that very fact of commercial-driven insights.

Mr Ruark I was discussing Mr. Hayward. As far as my experience I have done quite a number of things, even paid for considerable advertising over the years in various publications. Did not need to run a lot of different businesses, most successful people don't, they usually come up with a good game plan right away, others, well they just talk a good game. But being able to retire before I turned forty allowed me to go out and do so many other things, and I still enjoy learning to do new things all the time. Please note I made no personal attack on anyone, I only do that in person, up close and personal. I have found no one on this site that would cause me to want to get angry and sure hope my statements of accurate and verifiable facts do not upset anyone. Actually what I do to blow off steam is some downhill skiing.

P.A.: You wrote:"...with no practical experience." Have you ever produced anything in your life ? Ever published/edited a national leading magazine ? Ever taught at any level? Ever worked in ten separate businesses, owned several, established and operated wide ranging consultancy ? SO let's compare resumes, whenever you are ready...mine on record in STAFF section. Meanwhile please refrain from personal attack albeit that in itself indicates your inevitable frustration here. When credibility is at issue, pays to check the real record; you put c. at issue by unfair implication since basic data right on record in S-N Staff.

Mr Hayward does speak from the experience of doing, while some do their speaking from watching from afar on their rearend, with no practical experience.

To all: For realistic view of China trade and Russian coming input to it and international mayhem via U.S. dollar-attack, here is "see with own eyes" strong clue: PM Putin Suggests Russia, China Ditch Dollar in Trade Deals By RIA Novosti MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed on Tuesday that Russia and China gradually switch over to national currency payments in bilateral trade, expected to total $50 billion in 2008. "We should consider improving the payment system for bilateral trade, including by gradually adopting a broader use of national currencies," Putin told a bilateral economic forum. He admitted the task would be tough, but said it was necessary amid the current problems with the dollar-based global economy. Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao described strengthening bilateral relations as "strategic." --------- Not detailed here is fact that China and Russia both hold huge totals of Treasury obligations, and can force us to brink of national ruin by seeking rapid payment. We owe that perilous position to neocon policies, shaping "free trade" and globalization ever since Reagan via dereg. and privatization, leading to job export and eventually to current world credit/collapse.

this stuff is so old. This stuff has been talked about for decades. It only comes to the attention of most when its too late. I shouted this stuff 5 years ago. nobody listens. Ron Paul taked about it, but was trashed by the one party system and the corporate elite banker bought media. In any case.. Did you see the sky the last couple of days? Planes methodically leaving a white substance that filled the sky? The most extreme chemtrails I cant even explain. Maybe it will happen again tomomrrow. Look up and watch. Its crazy.

M-son: This one just for you. You wrote:"by that very act the primary controllers of capital, or in other words they now own the market system." Your interp. flies straight in face of Constitution, which Congress cannot alter. Thus any such decision, to avoid massive, multiple lawsuits, must demand change in Constitution. Can you prove otherwise ? If so, await your p/p-pander try here in public view. Fear is tattered neocon weapon ineffective with informed people. SO, if you can do so, go ahead and "inform" them via proof rather than empty personal wording to suit your needs.

Milliminimum et al: Au contraire, friend M ! IF you really want authentic picture of wealth in America, seek out American Management Association (AMACON) new book, reporting three national studies with SIX THOUSAND interviews, setting out what the facts are re huge, growing gap forcing TWO AMERICAS to function side-by-side (or perhaps one atop t/other !) Can hardly smear AMACOM with socialist or commie stain !! This basic study also agrees with Obama that "it is good to spread the wealth around", and with much good common sense a la that in O's full and undistorted statement, perverted here by peddler of political flimflam. Beats self-serving link to obscure magazine source selling subscriptions via website. Watch for Op Ed reporting in depth the truly transitional findings in the book, titled: "The New Elite:Inside the Minds of the Truly Wealthy"; ISBN-10:0-8144-0048-5.
Millison October 27, 2008 2:07 pm (Pacific time)
People you should take the time to read Obama's books. They pretty well spell out his fondness for the socialist philosophy. He is on record, both audio and video, saying it was "good to spread the wealth around." When government does this they become by that very act the primary controllers of capital, or in other words they now own the market system. For those who work hard for their money, why should we allow the government to force us to give our hard earned money to slackers? If this happens you will see so much money flying overseas our unemployment rate will grow very quickly. Look what Ireland did, they canceled all corporate taxes and now they are growing by leaps and bounds as new commerce from around the world move there, and the tax revenue generated by new jobs is benefiting everyone. The moral: minimize government intrusion into the free market system. You can see what happened when they told our banks to start issuing subprime loans. Go watch this for some insight http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2008/10/october-surprise-1-obama-in-his-own.html

To all: Check out M. comment-link and you will find commercial outfit selling specialty services for investors via website and magazine. Did NOT publish actual O.words but only short summary to get attention of naive and further misinform them to build chance to sell magazine. Check out link and evaluate with own mind.

To all: Definition shows distortion in Hayward view: "socialism (as in "political orientation") n. : a political theory advocating state ownership of industry." That's never been Obama point or position, negated by the public record on what he has actually stated. Nobody can produce statement in which O. advocates state possession of means for production, since he has never so advocated. Gloria has it exactly correct and reads intention by Hayward precisely right, too. He may be expert, but here misleads for political purposes what is really happening in China per world-famed political-economic scholars with many years of contact with China and with leadership there.
Gloria October 27, 2008 11:06 am (Pacific time)
Socialist, shmocialist! All this name calling, labeling is gaining momentum. I hear "socialist" replacing the "L" word more and more. I don't agree with Obama on a lot of counts, but he's not the devil- our world will not break into pieces when he's elected. It's time to put plans into action, improve your world. It's not socialism to do that! Get ready to have your say, Obama's a Dem that does allow people to participate in policy making -or breaking! At least he's ready to DO something. The Repub's can't say that.
Matt Johnson October 27, 2008 10:35 am (Pacific time)
Well I certainly can't argue with the notion of personal responsibility, and many people have talked about Obama's ambitions for 'wealth redistribution'.
Eric October 27, 2008 10:21 am (Pacific time)

This may be a game changer: "A 2001 Chicago Public Radio audiotape of Barack Obama surfaced and in it the Presidential candidate laments that the Supreme Court under former Chief Justice Earl Warren did not go far enough in its civil rights rulings. Obama said that the Supreme Court should have decided that government should have redistributed the wealth to African-Americans"... http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2008/10/october-surprise-1-obama-in-his-own.html
Eric October 27, 2008 8:43 am (Pacific time)
PLEASE! Al, please show me one place where Obama has ever claimed that he will give us more for less work. In fact, he is on record as saying just the opposite. You sound like somebody who wanted to be on the news, but didn't actually have anything substantive to say. Your comments clearly show your ignorance and how easily influenced you are by the Republican fear machine. Plus, it calls into question you being an expert of anything except regurgitating what you hear from McSame.
JMarra October 27, 2008 8:30 am (Pacific time)
Yawn. Gee. A "trade expert" with 25 years of experience trading with a COMMUNIST COUNTRY. Where's his moral outrage over THAT? Doing business with COMMUNISTS? How patriotic. Shows to go ya, Cons and McCain Morons don't just have DOUBLE standards, they have POLYNOMIAL standards--one for any purpose that suits 'em. Guy should be disgusted at his incredible hypocrisy--but when did cons and McCain Morons ever KNOW themselves? Morons, every last McCain voter.
