Oct-25-2012 17:49TweetFollow @OregonNews Many People Killed and Wounded in Army Shootings Across ArakanSalem-News.comAt least 10 Arakanese have been killed in an army crackdown on the fresh violence across Arakan state, according to relatives of the deceased.
(RANGOON, Burma Narinjara) - On the morning of 25 October, around 6 am, three people were killed during a clash between Arakanese Buddhists and Muslims in Kyauk Taw Township, located at Upper Kaladan River. Of the deceased, two were killed by security forces while the other was killed in the clash. The victims were identified as U Kyaw Thein (37), son of U Maung U Pru; U Zaw win (38), son of U Maung Kyaw and U Tun Aung Tha (45), son of U Maung Thein Nyunt. According to sources, the violence broke out at a Muslim village – Paik Thei – located just a few kilometers south of Kyauk Ta. During the violence two Arakanese Buddhists were killed in an army shooting while the security forces tried to prevent the violence between Arakanese Buddhists and Muslims. Another incident took place in Southern Rathidaung Township, 20 miles north of Sittwe, on the morning of October 25 – with two Arakanese Buddhist being killed and 9 injured by army shooting. A villager named one of the deceased as Thein Hla Maung from Kyaun Gyi village; the other victim is Aung Zan Wai from Kan Chaung village in Rathidaung Township. The 9 wounded people were sent to Sittwe General Hospital from the scene by motor boat. A female relative of the victims confirmed that all nine wounded are now hospitalized, some of them in a serious condition. The army personnel shot straight into a crowed which had formed near a Muslim village – Naung Pin Gyi – which has recently been guarded by the army to protect it from attack. On 23 October, there were many violent incidents around Mrauk U Township. In an incident that broke out in Nagara village in the township two Arakanese – Maung Aung Myint (28) and Maung Soe Soe (27)- from Pan Myunt village died after being shot by the Burmese army while thousands of Arakanese went to Nagara Muslim village to attack. According local sources, some Arakanese were killed by army in the violence of Yin The village and Pa Rim villages in Mrauk U Township on 23 and 24 October. _________________________________________
