(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Just remember as the Burmese Rohingya Muslims are being slaughtered in a Genocide sweeping 'Myanmar', U.S. media coverage has nearly vanished from the page. Today, the Wall Street Journal, LA Times and Washington Post all have articles about the escalating violence and bloodshed that has swept this country considered a pariah state until a recent shift toward democracy. Everything else showing up in Google News is from Asia, Europe or Salem-News.com; the only U.S. news agency that shows up repeatedly on the first page of a search for 'Myanmar'. If the people being killed were not Muslim, the news would be at the top of all media charts. Instead thousands of people are being slaughtered, raped, dying of illness and starvation and homes by the hundreds are being burned. The same thing happened in Sri Lanka three years ago. In that case Sinhalese Buddhists slaughtered up to 160k Tamil Hindus and Christians. In Burma, marauding Rakhine Buddhists are the culprits. The government has been an on-again off-again source of help for the Rohingya people but the help has never been enough to offset the violence and destruction. The story most people are going by as to why this all began, stems from the reported rape of a Buddhist woman in July by Rohingya Muslims; within hours of that reported event, ten Muslim men who had absolutely nothing to do with the alleged sex crime and murder were pulled from a bus by Buddhists and murdered in broad daylight. The inside story is that the girl who was killed was supposedly a Rakhine Buddhist woman who married or fell in love with a Rohingya Muslim and that she was in fact killed by Buddhists in an effort to launch this virtual civil war now increasingly being referred to as the new Bosnia. Rohingya Muslims lived here for generations in peace, but today are stateless people who lost their right to citizenship in Burma in a 1982 political decision issued by the ruling military junta. This rule has never been lifted, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has dismissed this death signal and decided to lift sanctions off the president of this country now called 'Myanmar' rather than Burma. She wants U.S. corporations to do business in this previously unexploited country and the American business interests are chomping at the bit to get close. Hillary Clinton and Burmese Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi know people are suffering, girls and women are being raped by government police, and people are having their lives ripped away with 'evacuate' orders in Muslim communities. ______________________________________________________

Tim specializes in writing about political and military developments worldwide; and maintains that the label 'terrorist' is ill placed in many cases; specifically with the LTTE Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka, where it was used as an excuse to slaughter people by the tens of thousands; and in Gaza, where a trapped population lives at the mercy of Israel's destructive military war crime grinder. At the center of all of this, Tim pays extremely close attention to the safety and welfare of journalists worldwide. You can write to Tim at this address: tim@salem-news.com.
