(SAN DIEGO) - While Santa Ana winds are expected to continue in Southern California, the National Weather Service says the weather system is weakening gradually, but conditions will remain somewhat dry and windy. The offshore winds will continue at 20-30 mph and continue through much of today, with a brief respite later this afternoon before increasing again. Weather experts say a weaker area of high pressure is building over the Rockies, that means the pressure gradient between the high and lower pressure along the coast is lessening. This morning, winds remain gusty in the mountains and through and below passes and canyons. The strong winds will be more localized than over the past three days. Western Expert Meteorologist Ken Clark with AccuWeather, says he expects that firefighters across Southern California will get some help from the weather on Thursday and Friday. "Good news is coming," Clark said in his blog. "The offshore flow turns onshore on Thursday driving down temperatures while driving up the humidity levels. Temperatures (will) drop a good 10 to 15 degrees between Wednesday and Thursday and humidity levels rise noticeably, especially along the coastal plain." Clark said this is the worst fire situation in Southern California since October 2003, when wildfires destroyed 3,640 homes and killed 22 people.
