(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Police say a traffic stop Monday morning led to the discovery of a large haul of counterfeit CD's and DVD's with popular titles as well as the seizure of several thousand dollars in cash. It began around 10:00 AM Monday when Oregon State Police Trooper Jake Ledbetter stopped a Ford Econoline van driven by 24-year old Javier Dominguez Ortega for failure to maintain a single lane of travel. Trooper Ledbetter says that during the traffic stop, he observed "numerous boxes containing a large amount of compact discs inside." He says a subsequent search of the van led to the discovery of approximately 6,000 counterfeit audio CDs and movie DVDs, including major motion picture movie titles "3:10 to Yuma", "The Brave One", "Transformers" and "Dragon Wars". Dominguez Ortega, who told police he now resides in Los Angeles, California, was taken into custody and lodged in Douglas County Jail for Laundering a Money Instrument, Unlawful Labeling of a Sound Recording, and Unlawful Labeling of a Videotape Recording. The money laundering charge is a class B felony and the unlawfully labeling charges are class C felonies. The investigation is continuing. DD (David Duke ?) ...where does it say that he was an illegal ? And where does it say that he had illegal friends with a vehicle full of dope? Judging by your erratic and incoherent use of capitals , you may be the only dope in this story.

I'm still trying to figure out how 'boxes of cds' constitutes probable cause. Not that I support such piracy but the 4th amendment is in pretty sad tatters here. Ah well...

Ever notice how many people get pulled over for "failure to maintain a single lane of travel" ? I think it is a catch-all to justify pulling anyone they want over. I am sure that in plenty of cases it is justified..drunk drivers et al, but funny how this "offense" did not exist until recently and is now one of the main reasons for traffic stops. Kind of like how even if your car is rear ended by another car, it gets searched...no wait..INVENTORIED... Maybe it is time we cut back on the new Mustangs and Chargers and the bottomless budgets for our bloated police depts. From investigating one dead eagle to the millions spent busting pot smokers, it seems these public servants have too much time and money on their hands. Consider that the next time a tricked out Marion County Mustang (appx $70,000 with all the bells and whistles) blasts past you. You paid for it.
