(BEAVERTON, Ore.) - On Tuesday the Beaverton Police Department dedicated extra manpower to arresting persons with outstanding family violence warrants. While domestic violence situations are of major concern to police officers who must deal with them on a regular basis, this concentrated effort was aimed specifically at seeking out persons with outstanding warrants stemming from such repeated violence. The 8th Annual Family Violence Apprehension Detail includes approximately 115 county sheriff's offices, police departments, probation departments, and community agencies from 23 states. All agencies served outstanding arrest warrants -- with charges ranging from Harassment to Murder. Within the City of Beaverton, officers made a total of 60 family violence arrest warrant service attempts, resulting in the arrests of eight. Three of the warrants were felony based crimes and five were misdemeanors. This collaborative effort, commonly known as the SWEEP, helps raise awareness of the problem of family and domestic violence in our communities. It also demonstrates to offenders that they will be held accountable for their violence.
