(RICKREALL) - The Oregon Department of Transportation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 17th at 1:00 PM to celebrate the nearly completed Rickreall Interchange. The ceremony will be held at the Rickreall Fire Department, on the corner of Church St. and Oregon 99W in Rickreall.

Construction of the new Rickreall Interchange Project is making progress, and is scheduled to be completed on time in December.

The $16.2 million project includes construction of a bridge on Highway 99W that crosses Highway 22, and a bridge that takes eastbound Highway 22 traffic over Highway 223.

Other features include landscaping, new signals at Rickreall Road and Highway 99W, illumination and various other items associated with major interchange construction. The new interchange will make it safer and easier for drivers using this busy intersection.

The community is invited to attend the Tuesday afternoon event, which will be held rain or shine. Refreshments will be provided by the Dallas Chamber of Commerce. Attendees may park along Church St., west of Highway 99W.

Also note: the photo is the old interchange prior to the new construction. To to www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION2 for more information. I typoed and meant OR 22 and 99W, not OR 99 and 99W.

For those of us who live in Dallas and commute to Salem--thank you ODOT! Shortened my commute by a good 5 minutes AND is saving countless lives and damage from accidents at the Dallas-Rickreall highway and OR 22 and other accidents at OR 99 and 99W. It was constructed with a minimum of inconvinence and on time. While I have no idea if it was on budget or not (I have not seen the financial reporting), I would suspect it was given no press coverage to the opposite (including Salem-News.com). Nice job ODOT.
