(RENO) - In view of recent tragic incidents resulting in deaths of migrants, Hindus want European Union (EU) to come up with a uniform and kinder EU-wide migration policy.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that the loss of migrants’ life heading to Europe, with one shocking incident after another, was not acceptable. How many more people needed to die before EU took the issue seriously and fixed the policy, Zed asked?

European waters close to Africa had seen many migrant deaths recently. EU needed a strong political will to stop this human tragedy, Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out.

Rajan Zed argued that all EU members should share the burden and resources in handling migrants as accommodating large number of unexpected arrivals could become challenging and overwhelming for few bordering countries like tiny Malta.

Zed stressed that the EU should be more kind to migrants and refugees, who might be fleeing persecution, discrimination and conflict; as we were all equal in the eyes of God. Moreover, morality dictated us to provide hope to the uprooted people and ancient scripture Isha Upanishad told us that Lord was enshrined in the hearts of all.

Rajan Zed urged His Holiness Pope Francis and other religious leaders of the world to take up this issue with EU as religion told us to help the helpless.
