Oct-11-2012 17:45TweetFollow @OregonNews Romney's Company Forces U.S. Flag to Be Lowered in IllinoisSalem-News.comIt took place as Chinese workers replaced U.S. workers losing their jobs.
(WASHINGTON DC) - (Link to follow up story posted below) If Mitt Romney is elected president, the American flag itself may actually be restricted from flying in the United States. That word comes from employees losing their jobs in Freeport, Illinois. The Presidential Candidate holds major stock in a company called Sensata. The company recently made factory officials take down the American flag when they were forced to train their Chinese replacement workers, according to Tom Gaulrapp, with the United Steelworkers Union. Right now in Freeport, Illinois, some 170 workers at an auto sensor plant are sleeping in tents to protest Bain-owned Sensata Technology’s decision to ship their jobs to China. Romney claims he knows nothing about this. But the New York Times explains: “[Mitt Romney] owns about $8 million worth of Bain funds that hold 51 percent of Sensata’s shares. If Sensata saves money by closing the Freeport plant, that could add money to Mr. Romney’s trust accounts, now or after the election.” This is taking place as Mitt Romney tries to convince people to believe that he doesn’t know about Bain's shipping American jobs overseas. He is trying to place distance between himself and Bain Capital, a pioneer of outsourcing where Romney made a fortune as CEO. Another employee losing her job, Mary Jo Kerr, is a young mom of three. She's heartbroken because she can’t afford dance lessons for her daughter. Another is Dot Turner, so close to retirement, but will not receive it. Instead Dot will get just 26 weeks’ severance for 43 years of work in the plant. Watch and share the Sensata workers’ story at www.usw.org/election2012. I'm very concerned that Obama is doing this. That's shameful. Doesn't Obama have any respect for American workers? Is he just Keystoning them again? What's worse, there are some vile filth out there actually trying to pin this on Romney- as if this wasn't fully controlled by Obama and his cronies.

Instead of partisan propaganda, how about some documented facts? "Liberal lies and hysteria try to tie Mitt Romney to Sensata closure. FACT: The key people running Bain Capital Investors are Joshua Bekenstein, John Connaughton, Paul Edgerly, Mark Nunnelly, Stephen Pagliuca, Jordan Hitch and Matthew Levin. It seems that the majority of these ‘key people’, who make decisions like closing Sensata, are Democrats who support Obama. In 2008, Bekenstein gave over $200,000 to help Democrats get elected. He and his wife are listed as one of the Top Individual Contributors on OpenSecrets.org. In 2010, Stephen Pagliuca ran against Martha Coakley in the Democratic primary for the special Senate seat election, the election that Scott Brown won. In 2008, Jordan Hitch gave money to both the Obama campaign and to the Romney campaign. In 2008, Mark Nunnelly gave thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates across the country, including Harry Reid. In 2012, Matt Levin spoke at the Democratic National Convention. He also donates frequently to Democrats..." http://www.examiner.com/article/liberal-lies-and- hysteria-try-to-tie-mitt-romney-to-sensata-closure

@Anonymous: Do you honestly think that a "Job Creator" will simply stop creating jobs if there are customers for their product or service? To do so is business suicide. Getting a bit annoyed with idiot right-wingers thinking that people will only create jobs if they're appeased by their government and given federal welfare. Jobs are created when business is created, business is created when people have money to spend. More jobs equals more revenue(Taxes), more revenue equals a more likely boost to the federal coffers, which in turn pays off our debts faster. Jobs aren't created without customers, to create jobs without customers is incredibly bad business sense, it's like having 20 people on the checkstands during the night shift, you're just throwing money away. So creating jobs without customers is bad business sense, and NOT creating new jobs when you do have the customers(Which in turn makes sure that you can't keep up with your competition) is bad business sense as well. Maybe it's about time we let those businesses do that. Let's let the businesses make bad business decisions, instead of trying to cater to them(Shortsighted, only going to "Solve" the problem for a few weeks at best), let's let them fail, and let their competition step in to do it better.

Romney doesn't hold 51% sensata, Bain Capital does, that being said, he is a major shareholder at Bain, and as money savvy as he is, he knows exactly what his money is doing and he has a say in what it does. If he really wanted to do the right thing he'd use his influence to keep American jobs, he's trying to become president, on the platform that big business is good for America, when he's a major shareholder in a company that specialized in shipping jobs overseas!
Anonymous October 14, 2012 6:05 pm (Pacific time)
CaliforniaBear, maybe you have not been keeping up with the economic situation in California? It is spiraling downwards quicker every day...you notice the towns claiming bankruptcy there? So after 4 years of literally a major con job from Obama, you want him to continue the same incompetence? Pretty soon we will not be able to pick up the tab for his wife's rather expensive vacations, but then maybe that's what you want? Anarchy? Because if he is re-elected, job creators will simply stop, and businesses sitting on a pile of money will continue sitting on it,they will not hire to a significant degree. Unemployment is going up, and if you think the drop to 7.8% was anything other than an election ploy, then you are soaked in the Koolaid. You need a supply and demand scenario to get the economy moving, and increasing taxes/fees from the feds and states will just stop all growth. Democrats have no idea what's going on, and this site will not have local advertisers, so I guess you want advertisers from overseas? Who would they be?
Lindsey Ann Lewis October 14, 2012 3:32 pm (Pacific time)

So , how is Romney responsible for what Bain does 12 years after he left it, and Obama is not responsible at all the years of failed economic policy ? And , for the Union to try to use this FOR Obama is ridiculous ... just what has Obama and the Dems in control of the House and the Senate for the past yrs done to stop this ? It started in 2012 ... And what of the fact , the leading Bain controllers are Democrats ? The key people running Bain Capital Investors are Joshua Bekenstein, John Connaughton, Paul Edgerly, Mark Nunnelly, Stephen Pagliuca, Jordan Hitch and Matthew Levin. It seems that the majority of these ‘key people’, who make decisions like closing Sensata, are Democrats who support Obama. a vote for Barry is a vote in favor of the folks actually DOING this ...
Ernesto October 14, 2012 10:13 am (Pacific time)
Most of you simply are referencing demo talking points, and not addressing the primary concerns, and that is Obama's record (of failures both domestic and foreign: high unemployment and our embassies under attack all over the world), while Governor Romney has had a successful business life, he has created and saved jobs from companies that were about to fail where all would have been lost. He also passed important legislation while working with a majority democratic legislature. So who has the background we need to get the economy moving if it was a race that neither Obama nor Romney had served in office? No brainer, then couple that with Obama's record and the Senate President, Harry Reid, also a Mormon, who has not had a budget for nearly four years. At least Romney/Ryan are putting something out there to discuss. As far as outsourcing jobs, it is Obama who leads that by miles, and over the decades it has been onerous tax policies by the dems who have caused many of our corporations to go overseas. Just compare our corporate tax rates with any other country of trading significance to verify that liability we have in trade. We need a change, a significant one, so I suggest you see how Obama and crew are trying to distract you with BS, while ignoring their record. Keep your eyes on the ball. Obama has been good at hitting the golfball alot, and shooting the basketball a lot. When our people were being killed in Libya he was partying in Las Vegas. Yeah he spikes the ball when our warriors kill the enemy, now our enemies want revenge for that spiking. THINK. This not a ballgame where your rooting for you team, this serious business folks.

Stories and photos like this are not helping any thing. There are 11 Sensata plants. 5 in China, 2 in the U.S. and the others in various S. American and European Countries. That is bad enough without your paper having to make up an incorrect photo caption.

A factory in China is flying Chinese flag while Chinese workers are being trained. Well, I'm convinced. This should automatically make Obama president for life and Romney must now recite "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" every second tuesday of each month for three hours nonstop.

Mr. Editor, any journalistic credibility you had was just flushed down the drain by including what is obviously not the Sensata building in Freeport, IL. Google Earth is a wonderful tool and a careful examination of the building on Google Earth will bear this out. Plus, as another poster has said, Romney owns $8 million in stocks in a company worth billions. What exactly is he supposed to do? Wouldn't it be more logical to ask the President of the U.S. for help, since it is his and his party's economic policies that led to the layoffs in the first place? Your use of deception in an article savaging Mitt Romney, the man, is just another sad example of a liberal press desperate to convince the people that the shackles the government will place them in will rest upon them lightly. I can assure you, they will not.
El Ronbo October 13, 2012 7:31 pm (Pacific time)
I'm sick and tired of this silly nationalism and symbolism - ZOMG, a flag! I'm also sick of blaming specific firms for what are general economic trends: jobs move to where they can be done cheapest, and for many manufacturing jobs that means China. Yes, we know Romney's approach is terrible, because we already tried it under Bush. But stop whining that Bain is moving these jobs to China - we're higher up the cost chain, so if we want jobs, we need to be higher up the value chain. Doing that requires education (especially for workers in industries that are vanishing), removing barriers to labor market flexibility (start with solving underwater mortgages and a health care system that both serve to keep people in lousy jobs and lousy job markets). Oh boo hoo, dance lessons. Please. Can we have an adult discussion that doesn't run around laying blame for inexorable global trends, or get upset about which piece of cloth hang from a flagpole, but instead discusses the real underlying causes. And starts educating people about real potential solutions. Then maybe the candidates would engage in real policy discussions.

You have a really big heart, Anonymous. She was retirement age and couldn't go out and get another job and counted on her retirement pay after 43 years of service to this company. Now, she gets two years severance pay and what after that is she supposed to do? Maybe she could stand on the corner and sell pencils to buy enough food for one day before she goes and crawls under the bridge to live? I hope this doesn't happen to you or your spouse, but if it does, think about Dot.

She agreed to work for that company for a paycheck until her services were no longer required. I guarantee you that the 26 weeks of severance "which is pay for doing nothing" is not required by law and was paid only to help the now former employees out until they find another job.

Also, to the guy saying illegals put flags up . . . they don't do that. I live in Texas, the schools put up flags of their choosing. Children do not get into schools just because they are a child. There are Mexican flags up, because there are legal Mexican immigrants (most of them actually). Heck, George W. Romney, Mitt's father, was born in Mexico. Also, you need to learn proper ENGLISH. For a guy that seems racist, you seem to not do so well with the thing you talk up. My Mexican-born boss writes better English than you do. Oh yeah, I have a job, probably make more than your uneducated self. Also, I hope Romney gets elected so you get to pay more taxes. Yeah, I said that, because that's what Romney plans to do. What did he say at the debates? Keep tax rates the same, but eliminate deductions. You have the same amount taken out of your paycheck each time, but now your end-of-year return is smaller, or you pay the IRS more. Maybe you guys should have went with Jon Huntsman, a guy that voluntarily joined the military (not like the anti-American draft dodging Romney).
JT October 13, 2012 6:06 am (Pacific time)
Bain Capital may have helped with the creation of Staples through investments. I could ask where did Bain Capital get the $31 million in initial funds for their own company? Probably handed to them by friends and family (investing in another company with money given to you is not all that great). Also, what about all the other companies that went under while Romney was active CEO? One study shows 17 out of 77 deals had the company go bankrupt, or 22% failure rate. One of the biggest downfalls of Bain Capital was KB (Kay Bee) Toys. Bain bought them in 2000, when they were a very successful company. Since then, it went downhill, until the bankruptcy in 2004, then demise in 2009. Mitt Romney and Bain Capital are extremely good at what they do. Buying and investing for a extremely quick profit, regardless of what that entails. If it makes them a profit to buy a company and harvest it, they will do it. If it's profitable to send it all overseas, they will do it. That's not what I want, and that's not what American wants.

To Mr Anonymous. I don't know who pays you to do what, but I would like to make one salient point about your hero, and in all likelihood boss, Mitt Money. Mitt. What the Hell kind of name is that for a man? The point is, a lot of very evil people have done a smack of good to trick their people into a political stupor until it was too late. Since you obviously have an answer for everything, riddle me this, Batman. Would you call Adolf Hitler's building of the Autobahn, employing thousands of people and helping the German economy imeasurably(and provided the Wehrmacht with the means to move troops faster than any army in history) was a good political, or military move. Define it in simple terms, since your complex thoughts are difficult to follow.
DJ: According to Wikipedia: His parents named him after a family friend, businessman J. Willard Marriott, and his father's cousin, Milton "Mitt" Romney, a former quarterback for the Chicago Bears.

This is pathetic. Bain is worth $66,000,000,000 Romney owns 0.0121% of that. Bain owns 80 companies including 51% of Sensata That means that Romney owns 0.00618% of Sensata through a blind trust (about $333,000 out of a $5.4B market cap) You really think that Romney called them up and made them put up the Chinese flag? Give me a fucking break. Bain also provided start up money for Staples which has 90,000 employees. Romney was on the board of directors for 15 years. Why aren't you posting that those 90,000 people have a job because of Romney?
Timothy October 12, 2012 10:41 pm (Pacific time)
Romney's blind trust isn't really blind. We know it is heavily invested in his baby Bain, and not actually blind, since his personal attorney controls the trust, and lawyer-client confidentially keeps the lawyer quiet - yeah, yeah, we know, his lawyer wouldn't risk disbarrment - everyone has there price - everyone.

Hey, anonymous, not only should you do research before you type, but unless you make $250,000 (Mitt's "middle income", remember?) or more a year, you better get ready to live in squalor when Mitt "51% owner of Sensata and shipping jobs to China" Romney ends your way of life as you know it.

Anonymous, you do realize that the employee receives a pension as part of the monetary package don't you? In lieu of a higher pay rate, money is put into that pension package. That is money EARNED and OWED. It is not a freebie provided by the employer. Stay away from any financial contracts because you will definitely be in over your head. And dance classes for a child may mean the world. Do you also know that the Arts bring more income and revenue than any professional sports team? You should do some research before you decide to type.

Know the facts as per registered ownership, blind trusts, etc. Just more political distractions from those who cannot debate facts and policies, so the thugs just make up stuff. The future of all unions was pretty well forcasted by what is happening in Wisconsin. And you union members will have more take home pay when the union bosses are in prison. Mass prosecutions begin next spring under a new Attorney General. In 2010, the Bain Capital-controlled Sensata Technologies bought Honeywell’s automotive onboard sensor business, . . . This is ["ELEVEN YEARS"] AFTER Romney left Bain Capital. J. Imelt (Obama’s job Czar) has become the poster child for Outsourcer in chief. And what about banning the light bulb in favor of hazardess made in China CFL. Pot meet Kettle. The real story is that the redistribution folks in this administration believe that Americans live too high on the hog, and that their wages need to be brought down to the same level as the third world countries. If wages can’t be reduced, then they should be punished by a global tax to redistribute what they earn to the other countries by the UN. The only decent jobs in the future are going to be those that cannot be outsourced or automated. Plumber, Electricians etc. Of course illegals are sucking up those jobs quickly...just go look at their union halls who care more about getting dues than seeing that citizens have jobs. Really happening, and no stealth involved, just no info getting out to the public...at this time.

Anonymous who can't type properly = TROLL, maybe even paid by con "consulting" companies to sprinkle inane right-wing vitriol like this all around the Interwebs. Look it up, it's actually a thing. We're onto you, Anonymous. And if you're not getting paid and still feel like you have to interject with that nonsense, you have way too much time on your hands.
Christi October 12, 2012 3:41 pm (Pacific time)
Anonymous- about those dance lessons. They might not mean much to you, but they are probably everything to the little girl or boy who wants to take them. I take it you aren't a parent?

I'm sorry but if you own 51% of a company you know a lot of what is going on in that company. This is appaling. Yes Anonymous, no dance lessons to a child is hardship, losing your pension after 43 years is a hardship, you Anonymous are cold hearted and not a christian. AND flying our flag at 1/2 mast is UNAMERICAN!

This story should be on every front page in ever newspaper and on every prime time news cast nation wide,..not only is Romney and the rich, fat cat republicans using off shore accounts to not pay their fair share of taxes,...Romney is benefiting from not only shipping jobs overseas but are ruining people's lives,...they have no morales,....I believe in God and they will have to explain to him why they were greedy and worshipped their money,...!sure world not trade places with them,....!

"Well, mi don't believe that Romney didn't know anything. nits just another down from these radical liberals" What? Seriously, I'm utterly confused about what you just said. "But off course nothing bad to say about king without cloth Obammer." What? Seriously? What? "And with the flag deal, well there have been times lately that the illegals putup their Mexican flags outside schools and local Government buildings" This is odd. I googled it, and saw nothing outside of one instance where pro-immigration protests raised a Mexican flag, not the government building itself. So, there is absolutely no evidence of what you said. "I guess that is ok because they are so patriotic and just want to learn and work here. Not, take the freebies and suck dry the tax payer" This is odd. Most immigrants do actually work, often working multiple jobs. They pay taxes, even illegal immigrants pay some form of taxes, at least sales tax. The funny part is, and I do hate to make this assumption, but judging from your spelling, syntax, and the logic you use, I would guess they pay more taxes and put less of a burden on the system than you do.

The right has no rythm or reason ! it's just about the money ! They could care less about what they are doing to the country !

Dance lessons? that's a hardship? Losing your shot at a pension, that's a hardship. Why the other item was included is beyond me, it only weakens your article.

I'm confused by this story. The headline seems designed to appeal to the Tea Party, who holds "patriotism" - or their twisted image of it, to be the highest virtue. But the real outrage here is the jobs being shipped overseas and people profiting from it. THAT should be the headline, and THAT should be the focus. The flag thing is insulting, but it's small potatoes compared to destroying people's lives.

Editor: I see, so you are for Romney disrespecting the U.S. flag and even have excuses to toss in, got it.
