One-Year Old Being Pushed in Stroller Struck by Car, Dies from Injuries

Otherwise peaceful afternoon turns tragic in Newberg.

(NEWBERG, OR) - At approximately 3:44 p.m. Monday, the Newberg-Dundee 911 Center received an emergency call reporting that a child in a stroller had been struck by a vehicle on 4th Street near South Meridian. The one year old, male toddler, was being pushed in a stroller by his 13 year old cousin when he was struck by a 1991 Ford Taurus.

Police and Fire arrived within moments and quickly assessed the toddler. Life Flight was activated immediately and the Toddler was flown to Emanuel Hospital for treatment. The toddler later died at the hospital.

The Yamhill MATT team was activated and the incident is still under investigation. The driver of the vehicle, Derick Wiltshire of Newberg, remained on scene and has been cooperating fully with investigators.

The agencies on the MATT team that are assisting the Newberg-Dundee Police are Oregon State Police, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, and the McMinnville Police Department.

The name of the family is being withheld at this time to make sure all other members have been notified.
