(SALEM, Ore.) - A senior Israeli diplomat highly praised the appointment of Turkey's new foreign minister “Feridun Sinirlioğlu” and called it an opportunity to use a talented and first-class diplomat as foreign minister. It coincides with efforts underway by Turkey to change its relationship with Israel. Accordingly, based on the above mentioned reasoning, Israel's foreign ministry’s director-general Dore Gold, said he is hopeful about the increasing convergence between two countries. Gold asserted he had sent a letter congratulating Sinirlioğlu on his appointment in a meeting with Turkish reporters on 01 September 2015. Gold is one of the experienced consultants for Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu who met his Turkish counterpart recently and held a meeting in Rome to improve the mutual relations between the two countries. “Turkey is very lucky to have Sinirlioğlu as foreign minister. He is a first-class diplomat,” Gold said. He added: “We planned to hold meetings with Sinirlioğlu in order to expand relations in (the) near future.” Gold pointed out that the interests of Turkey and Israel have overlapped in recent years, as they perceive common threats in the Middle east and their intelligence agencies have had close relations for many years. He said: “the convergence between two countries will increase interests and security for both sides.” “We have not yet resolved the crisis we have had over the Mavi Marmara but I think we are moving in a positive direction,” said Gold. _________________________________________
