(SALEM, Ore.) - Dore Gold, the Director-General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hopes that in the near future, Israel and Turkey will find a joint solution in order to reestablish ties between the two governments. Mr. Gold, who had a clandestine meeting with his Turkish counterpart in Rome, stated that the region’s unraveling developments and complex challenges have persuaded Turkey to carry out some decisive changes in its foreign policy. The strategic situation has deteriorated across Turkey in the past two-three years... especially after the advent of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), added Mr. Gold. Responding to a question on why the two countries don’t try effectively reconcile; Gold replied that the tough situation which Turkey is encountering is worse than the 2010 raid on the Mavi Marmara flotilla by many times. The event soured the relation between Ankara and Tel Aviv. “Things will take time,” added the Israeli official. When asked whether he thinks that Israel and Turkey would look for a rapprochement as long as President Erdoğan holds office; Gold answered that he does believe that all countries would act according to their respective interests and (he) thinks Turkey and Israel will coalesce around their vital interests. It is expected that in the near future, Gold will visit with prominent Turkish news reporters in the occupied territories. Turkey and Qatar claim to support Hamas – an important pillar of the axis of resistance – but insiders say that their real goal is to expand their political, economic and military relations with the Zionist regime. _________________________________________
