(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen is blasting conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh on his outrageous comment that soldiers who support withdrawing from Iraq are "phony soldiers".

“Rush Limbaugh’s personal attack on our men and women in uniform is reprehensible. It minimizes the sacrifice our troops in Iraq and their families are making and has no place in the public discourse. Rush Limbaugh owes our military and their families an apology for his hurtful comments that minimize their service to our country.”

  • Excerpt of “The Rush Limbaugh Show” (September 26, 2007, Premiere Radio Networks):

  • LIMBAUGH: "Save the -- keep the troops safe" or whatever. I -- it's not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.
  • CALLER: No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.
  • LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.
  • CALLER: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country.
  • LIMBAUGH: They joined to be in Iraq. They joined --
  • CALLER: A lot of them -- the new kids, yeah.
  • LIMBAUGH: Well, you know where you're going these days, the last four years, if you signed up. The odds are you're going there or Afghanistan or somewhere.
  • CALLER: Exactly, sir.

Senator Chris Dodd's Communications Director Hari Sevugan (Dodd is running for the 2008 Democratic Presidential Nomination) released the following statement on Rush Limbaugh's comments impugning the troops: "It's ironic, if not remotely surprising, that Rush Limbaugh - who makes his living shooting his mouth off - would impugn the patriotism and service of American troops simply because they have voiced their opposition to this failed policy. It's clear that he has no idea what the brave men and women of our armed forces are ostensibly fighting for."

Mark Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Communications Inc., which syndicates Limbaugh's radio program defended the talk-show host Wednesday over his controversial "phony soldiers" remark, saying it's "unfair" to assume the comment was directed at combat troops opposing the Iraq war.

"Given Mr. Limbaugh's history of support for our soldiers, it would be unfair for me to assume his statements were intended to personally indict combat soldiers simply because they didn't share his own beliefs regarding the war in Iraq," Mays said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

JESSE MacBETH’s original name was al-Zayed and changed his name before he 'enlisted' for 44 days in the U.S. MILITARY where he did NOT serve in IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN and did NOT 'wintess' any atrocities committed by U.S. TROOPS and did NOT 'win' a bronze-star as he originally claimed. Of course the ever-vigilant 'NATIONAL MEDIA' never bothered to check/verify his preposterous tales/stories!!! Way to go RUSH LIMBAUGH - he was a 'phoney soldier'!!!

To all: Here, from three wise older Americans, are words of wisdom which may well apply neatly to this ongoing shoot-out re broadcast pretend-punditry and loudmouth lash-outs -- if you can see "the big picture" thus so well illuminated: "We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force. " : Ayn Rand in "The Nature of Government" "The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite." --Thomas Jefferson "There is absolutely nothing to be said for government by a plutocracy, for government by men very powerful in certain lines and gifted with 'a money touch,' but with ideals which in their essence are merely those of so many glorified pawnbrokers." ---Theodore Roosevelt

Way to go JOHN'the-Fraud'KERRY say did you ever clean-up how you claimed you were awarded a BRONZE-STAR with a 'V' for valour when that award was not given out in the VIETNAM conflict or how you 'stole/appropriated' the story of how you were in CAMBODIA working for the C.I.A. when it actually was another vet's story you heard in a BOSTON VETERAN'S GROUP meeting??? JESSE MacBETH's real name was al-Zayed and changed his name before he 'enlisted' for 44 days in the U.S. MILITARY where he did not serve in IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN and did not 'wintess' any atrocities committed by U.S. TROOPS and did not 'win' a bronze-star as he originally claimed. To all: "Talk radio" today has become a malign force directed vs any semblance of liberal values in our democracy by those who own the stations, even though they operate on our commonweal of physical spectrum, for their very obvious corporate purposes. That's a well-documented statement drawn from a variety of professional sources, all available on request. Mays heads up Clear Channel; here's the skinny on them: "The largest U.S. radio station owner owns over 1,100 full-power AM, FM, and shortwave radio stations, eleven satellite radio channels on XM Satellite Radio, and more than 30 television stations in the United States, among other media outlets in other countries." Clear Channel is notorious for its wide practice of establishing mutual newsroom facilities for a group of stations, both radio and tv, thus very effectively killing off the very essence of "tal radio" and tv-news --its response to LOCAL NEEDS and PROBLEMS, by substituting pretend-punditry by big-mouth proclaimers for essentially corporate-shaped values and interests. Do you really believe that's the best possible and most democratic usage of our mutual ownership of those essential commonweal broadcast spectrum channels ??
