Oregon Days of Culture October 1 - 8

(SALEM, Ore.) - Friday, October 1 is the first day of the 8-day week that is Oregon Days of Culture. The celebration kicks off tonight with an open house at the Oregon History Museum, which will be open every day of the celebration - through Friday, October 8 - free.

Presented by the Oregon Cultural Trust, Oregon Days of Culture, October 1 - 8, is an 8-day week to Celebrate!Participate!Give! to Oregon culture. There are nearly 600 ways to join the celebration at www.OregonDaysofCulture.org: programming - much of it free and family oriented -- in theaters, parks, libraries, community and senior centers, galleries and museums, screening rooms, heritage sites and historical societies in every part of the state.

Though concentrated in an 8-day week, Oregon Days of Culture highlights everyday culture in every Oregon community. The celebration peaks on Friday, October 8, the 8th anniversary of Oregon's powerful tax credit - the mechanism that powers cultural philanthropy and grantmaking benefiting hundreds of heritage, humanities and arts nonprofits across Oregon every year - and the Cultural Trust's 8th birthday. October is also National Arts and Humanities Month.

As part of the celebration, the Cultural Trust asked six prominent Oregonians - business executive Chandra Brown, Rep. Dave Edwards, environmentalist Jack McGowan, Pendleton Round-Up Drirector Mike Thorne, Native American artist and writer Liz Woody and Olympic fencer Mariel Zagunis to reveal their cultural confessions…that secret cultural something that others may not know about them. Those confessions - along with those of dozens of other Oregonians - are posted to www.OregonDaysofCulture.org.

October 1 - 8, 2010 has been proclaimed Oregon Days of Culture by Governor Kulongoski and the cities of Portland, Eugene, Salem, Dundee, Astoria, Bend, Chiloquin, Silverton, Coos Bay, to name just a few.
