(Beavercreek, Ore.) - On Friday, October 1, 2010 at 10:05 a.m. a vehicle described as a maroon colored 1994, Toyota, 4-Runner, was proceeding westbound on S. Leland Road as it was approaching the intersection of S. Leland and S. Leslie Road, in Beavercreek. It is reported the driver of his westbound vehicle became momentarily distracted, causing this vehicle to depart the roadway on the north side of S. Leland Road, and was returning to the roadway surface when it struck an obstruction – described as an asphalt driveway approach – which launched this vehicle into the air. This airborne vehicle then traveled into the eastbound lane of travel and struck an oncoming eastbound vehicle. The lone, 63-year-old female driver occupant of this eastbound vehicle in operation of 1993, Subaru, Impreza died instantly in this resulting crash. This deceased driver is identified as Nancy Lee Tonkin, 63, who resided with her family on S. Beavercreek Road, in Beavercreek. This westbound vehicle involved is described as a maroon colored 1994, Toyota, 4-Runner. This 1994 Toyota was found operated by Sydney Nichole Karlik, 19, with a residential address in Oregon City. Sydney Karlik did not appear injured and did not require medical attention at the scene. Both automobiles did not carry any passengers at the time of this crash. This ongoing fatal traffic crash investigation continues to be conducted by members of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Crash Reconstruction and Forensic Technicians (CRAFT), whose expertise is utilized for these tragic types of traffic related events.
