Nov-30-2006 10:09TweetFollow @OregonNews Historic Oregon Coast Restaurant Destroyed by FireKevin Hays Salem-News.comThe Dory Cove opened for business on July 1st, 1973 in Lincoln City.
(LINCOLN CITY) - An overnight fire has destroyed a historic Lincoln City restaurant. Fire officials said they were called to the Dory Cove Restaurant, 5819 Logan Road just before 10:00 PM. The fire re-ignited twice, and Thursday morning, crews were still on scene dowsing hotspots, and investigating the cause. There were no injuries reported. The family-owned and operated restaurant has been serving Lincoln City residents and coastal visitors for more than 33 years, creating traditions for hundreds, or even thousands. Everyone that worked at the Dory Cove became a family, and that extended group has been long-lasting in the community. Anyone with photos of the fire, or those who remember eating at the historic restaurant should send your photos and thoughts to: newsroom@salem-news.com

We were shocked and saddened to see that Dory Cove had burned when we were in Lincoln City earlier this week. We've been patrons for over 15 years and always included Dory Cove on any trip to the central coast; sometimes it was our primary destination! We hope you rebuild and, if you do, please restore the cozy family friendly atmosphere and quality food you're so famous for. God bless.

We loved going to the Dory cove. When we were at our beach house we could walk up there and have the best clam chowder! What a shock, we were just there! The restaurant will be sorely missed. You are all in our prayers and we hope you rebuild...

My family loved the Dory Cove and have gone there since it opened. We are very upset. I hope there is a fund raiser!

What a shock this is. "The Dory" is more than a restaurant, it's a landmark, one of the deeper roots of the city. The healing will begin with the rebuilding, which I hope happens soon. Hang in there Chief, and every one else too.

I am sad to see hear about the fire and really enjoyed that restaurant. They will be missed. And they had very good clam chowder, but I still prefer the clam chowder at Cannon Beach Mo's. Now about DC's clam strips, no one topped those. Amazingly golden brown and tender.

Char Brown wants to do a fundraiser for the restaurant soon. like in January i think.

How sad. My wife and I have made it a point to visit the Dory Cove every time we go to the coast. Although the entire menu is good, we have driven from Seaside just for a bowl of their exceptional chowder! If the owners rebuild, I hope they keep it small and cozy. Too often, when a restaurant expands, the food and service suffers. I would hate to see that happen with the Dory Cove.

Even though I now live in New Mexico, I felt the pain of Chief Roy Johnson and his Crew at the Dory Cove. My family and I have been going to the "Cove" since it opened. My wife Rachel worked for Cheif several years ago, along with most of my friends at one time or another. I only hope that they are able to re-build so once again everyone can enjoy the best Clam Chowder in the Northwest. If there is a fund raiser to help, I encourage everyone who has ever had lunch or dinner support their efforts.
