(GLADSTONE, Ore. ) - An unidentified adult female in a wheelchair died Wednesday morning from injuries sustained when she was struck by a hit & run driver while attempting to cross Highway 99E (SE McGloughlin Blvd) between Jennings Avenue and Boardman Avenue. Investigators have confirmed that the suspect vehicle is a dark colored vehicle, possibly Ford make but unknown model. The suspect vehicle does not appear to be red in color as earlier indicated. At approximately 6:00 AM the victim got off a Tri-Met bus on the west side of Highway 99E and attempted to cross the highway during foggy, dark conditions. The victim was struck in the middle of the two southbound lanes and dragged approximately 100 feet in her wheelchair. The vehicle failed to stop and was last seen southbound on Highway 99E. The victim was transported to Oregon Health Sciences University where she died about an hour after the crash. Oregon State Police troopers from the Portland Area Command office and members of the Clackamas County inter-agency crash investigation team (CRAFT) are on scene investigating. ODOT is assisting with traffic control while the two southbound lanes are blocked. Traffic is getting through the area in both directions.
