(DAYTON, Ore.) - Police say a 13-year old Dayton-area girl died Tuesday evening when the van operated by her mother was struck by a truck while attempting to cross Highway 18 at SE Ash Street on the west end of Dayton. Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into the crash that also critically injured her mother. The crash happened at approximately 8:10 p.m. OSP Sergeant Brad Hessel, says 47-year old Connie Mosgrove of Dayton, was attempting to cross Highway 18 in her 1995 Plymouth Voyager van from the north side of SE Ash Street to the south side when it was struck in the passenger side by an eastbound 1995 Ford AeroMax truck pulling an empty car transport trailer. Hessel says after impact, both vehicles came to rest on opposites sides of Highway 18. The van's passenger, 13-year old Kalie Mosgrove of Dayton, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Connie Mosgrove was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital reportedly with critical injuries. The truck's driver, 33-year old Jolan Miller of Vancouver, Washington was not injured. Safety restraint use information is not available at this time. OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, ODOT and fire personnel from McMinnville and Dayton fire departments assisted at the scene. Highway 18 was closed about six hours at the scene of the crash.
