(SALEM, Oregon) - The Willamette University women's basketball team was defeated by Eastern Oregon University, 70-55, on Monday, Nov. 22. Eastern improved to 5-1 this season. The Bearcats moved to 0-3 overall. Kaileigh Westermann (Jr., F, Belfair, WA/South Kitsap HS) posted a double-double for the Bearcats. Westermann had 13 points and 12 rebounds in the game. She was five for nine from the field and added two assists. Senior Shayna Glynn (F, Boise, ID/Walla Walla CC) added eight points and 11 rebounds. Glynn was four of six from the field. Freshman MacKenzie Lamson (G, Portland, OR/Lincoln HS) added 10 points and four rebounds in her third collegiate game. Senior Alex Zennan (G, Sammamish, WA/Eastlake HS) contributed nine points for the Bearcats. Willamette trailed by just six points at halftime. Eastern Oregon scored 11 points in the first half off of turnovers to help them gain an advantage at the break. The Bearcats came out firing in the second half and took a one-point lead with 15:56 remaining on a jumper by Lamson. After a basket by the Mountaineers, Lamson connected on another jumper to again claim a lead at 38-37. Eastern answered with a layup by Rosebud Guthrie. Guthrie's layup put Eastern on top 39-38 and they maintained the lead for the remainder of the game. Nicole Redd scored a game-high 15 points for Eastern Oregon. Samantha Flett and Guthrie each had 11 points. Kelsea Hurliman added 10 points to the Mountaineers. The Bearcats out-rebounded Eastern, 47-39. The Mountaineers forced 23 Willamette turnovers and scored 17 points off of those turnovers. Willamette finished the game 24 of 63 from the field (38.1%). Eastern connected on 22 of 61 shot attempts (36.1%). The Mountaineers knocked down eight three-point shots in the game. Willamette will play again on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. (PST) in Cone Field House against the Academy of Art.
