(DEPOE BAY, Ore. ) - One person was injured and a driver cited for Careless Driving after losing control of the armored truck he was driving and crashing down an embankment Thursday morning on Highway 101 about two miles south of Depoe Bay.

At approximately 8:30 AM, an Oregon Armored Service truck driven by 24-year-old Jose Lorenzana, from Salem, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 130 negotiating a curve when it lost control, drove across the northbound lane and went about 50 feet down a steep embankment.

A co-employee passenger, 45-year-old Scott Lester, from Salem, was in the back of the armored vehicle unrestrained and received minor injuries.

Lester was transported by Pacific West ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport for treatment. Lorenzana was using safety restraints and was not injured.

Oregon State Police troopers from the Newport Area Command office are completing the investigation. Excessive speed on wet pavement were contributing factors.

People act like this is something new. I live in downtown Portland, and I see armored cars driving recklessly in the city -- changing lanes without signals, stopping without any warning, and PARKING in the middle of the street to unload/load deposits. These guys think that because they carry guns and "feel" important that the rules don't apply to them.
