Cavs near the Century Mark in Boxer Blowout

(FOREST GROVE, Ore.) - Connecting on 63.9 percent of its attempts from the field in the first half, Concordia defeated Pacific College 98-72 in a non-conference women’s basketball contest held at the Stoller Center on Monday night.

With the result, Concordia improved to 2-3 on the season while the game represented the season opener for the Boxers.

On the same day she was minted the Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, CU senior Danielle Clauson erupted for a career-high 33 points after hitting 15-of-20 from the field, including 10-of-15 for 22 points in the first 20 minutes alone. Clauson tallied a career-best 29 during her freshman season against Evergreen State on February 1, 2008. She had reached 28 points on three previous occasions, including hitting the mark just seven days ago at home against Westmont.

The Cavaliers held just a one-point lead at the 14:32 mark after Pacific’s Paige Jenson converted a layup to make the score 15-14, but the Cavs held the Boxers to just 11 points the rest of the half to stake a 54-25 lead at the break.

The Boxers were able to cut the deficit to 20 with a Kandice McArthur jumper with 16:23 to play for a score of 60-40, but the Cavalier attack continued en route to the 26-point margin.

With 13 points, Courtney May was the only other CU player to reach double figures, as all13 players on the roster made it into the scoring column. A dozen players registered at least one rebound with Clauson leading the way with nine caroms collected. Clauson added five assists, two blocks and four steals in the contest. Gabi Beyer led the team with six assists

Kristen Corrales tied Jenson with 13 points to lead Pacific in scoring while teammate Kaley Adams chipped in with 11 points in 18 minutes off the bench. McArthur grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, including four from the offensive end.

The Cavs finished 40-of-68 from the floor for 58.8 percent while Pacific was held to 26-of-69 for a 42 percent rate.

The Cavs fell two points shy of 100 points, a feat the team has only accomplished on 11 occasions. CU’s record for points in a game is 124 which was set against Pacific during the 1997 season record for points.
