Oregon State Women's Soccer Falls in Heartbreaker to Oklahoma State, 2-1

The Beavers finished the season with an overall record of 16-4-1 which is the best in program history

(STILLWATER, Okla.) - The No. 15 Oregon State women’s soccer team fell to No. 6 Oklahoma State Sunday by a final score of 2-1 at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Sophomore Chelsea Buckland gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead at the half but two second half Cowgirl goals were too much for the Beavers.

“I think overall we played a good game,” Oregon State women’s soccer head coach Linus Rhode said following the disappointing 2-1 loss. “We came out and competed well in this tough environment. It’s unfortunate for us but that is the game of soccer.”

It was scoreless through 44 minutes and 55 seconds of the first half before Chelsea Buckland put the Beavers on the board. She got the ball and dribbled to the left side of the field and with the final 10 seconds of the first half counting down, she drove the ball from 30-yards out into the top-right corner of the net. The Beavers took the 1-0 lead into the half thanks to Buckland’s 10th goal of the year.

The Beavers had the lead until Oklahoma State’s Elizabeth DeLozier got a redirect header to tie the match at 1-1 in the 74th minute. The Cowgirls (19-3-2 overall) added another goal in the 82nd minute of a rebound for the final 2-1 score.

Oregon State had one final chance with six seconds left but the header inside the box went straight at the Cowgirl keeper Adrianna Franch.

The Beavers recorded 13 total shots in the match but put only three of them on goal. It was a physical game right from the beginning of the match. Oregon State was tallied with 14 fouls in the match while Oklahoma State committed 10 fouls.

“I’m satisfied with the team, how we’ve done and the progress we’ve made,” Rhode said. “It’s disappointing to lose but you have to take the good with the bad.”

The Beavers finished the season with an overall record of 16-4-1 which is the best in program history. It is the most wins and the fewest losses in a single-season at Oregon State. It was the third time in program history that the team has made it to the NCAA tournament.
