(PORTLAND, OR) - The media is ignoring the Honduran elections, scheduled for November 24. If you’ve forgotten, Honduras is the country whose elected president Mel Zelaya was the victim of a violent military coup in 2008 which was later accepted by the Lesser Evil administration and Hillary Clinton. Leading in polls is Libre party candidate Xiomara Castro, the ousted president’s wife, and there has been serious violence against her supporters. Info at ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ The Portland Central America Solidarity Committee is gathering to enjoy a feast with friends and support folks who will be going on delegations down to Honduras to be observers during the upcoming elections, and also to learn about the local organizing around Honduran people's struggles.. 2222 SE Ankeny (just around the corner from the PCASC office) 6:30 Social Hour begins Maribel is an organizer who has been fighting for social justice within Honduras and throughout the Americas for her entire life. Together John and Maribel will be creating a delicious menu for the night. What's for dinner? The Revolutionary Supper Club is an excellent way to enjoy an incredible feast with friends while supporting the movement. Michael Munk tries to glean important but overlooked items from the world media on the issues of the day and posts them on an irregular schedule. Although items can overlap, he also maintains separate lists for activists in Portland, Oregon and the Northwest, and special lists for: Labor, Latin America, Israel, Torture Taxis, Korea, and the Czech Republic. Michael is a highly praised writer from an important generation whose book, the Portland Red Guide, has received high praise. "City Commissioner Nick Fish gave me a copy. Sat down on my sofa and couldn't put it down until I finished. Fascinating!" "Whoop! Whoop! I'm impressed by how many names from Portland's past have not made it into our official histories and public memorials. Some were good friends of mine. Local history is too often overlooked. Good work, Mike." Visit the new photo gallery on Michael's website: www.michaelmunk.com _________________________________________
