(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Detectives with the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating the deaths of three people in the Bethany area. The preliminary investigation indicates that this was a murder suicide. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin, said Spokesman for the Washington County Sheriff, Dave Thompson. He says today at about 11:30 a.m. Washington County Sheriff's Deputies were called to the 16900 block of NW Oak Creek Drive in the community of Bethany for a welfare check. "Family members were concerned that they had not heard from their relatives as they normally do and called deputies." Thompson says deputies were concerned for the welfare of the family and forced entry into the house. "They found three deceased people in an apparent murder suicide. The names, ages, and sexes of the deceased people are not being released at this time pending the notification of the next of kin." Detectives are still investigating the incident and will not be releasing details of the crime until they are more certain of the series of events that led to the three deaths, Thompson said. "The next of kin notifications have been made more difficult, because the families of the deceased do not live in Oregon. Once the notifications have been made the names of the victims and their killer will be released." Condolences to all concerned in these extremely difficult times. Although not all suicidal or homicidal individuals are depressed, many are. For anyone concerned about the risk of suicide or other risks, a variety of screening quizzes are available. For example, in the case of depression: see the Beck Depression Inventory, in David Burns' book, Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy. Stress over time can trigger depression. Resilience is one term used to describe the ability to cope with stress and eventually get back to one's usual ability to function. Parents, spouses, school staff, students or others interested in resilience might look at the free chapter on resilience at http://stressedfamily.blogspot.com/2009/08/stressed-family-strong-family-chapter-1.html or one on vicious cycles in families, such as nagging/procrastinating at http://stressedfamily.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-stop-nagging-blaming-and-other.html
