(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Eastern Oregon fended off a spirited effort from Warner Pacific and emerged with a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-13, 25-20) win over the Knights in Cascade Conference volleyball action tonight at C.C. Perry Gym. The lead changed hands five times in set one, but the visiting Mountaineers (13-10, 9-8 CCC) pulled away late to win 25-21. Set two was another close one with 14 tie scores and four lead changes, but Warner Pacific (4-19, 2-15 CCC) prevailed 25-22 thanks to 14 kills and a match best .182 hitting percentage. Set three was all EOU as the visitors swung for 17 kills versus just one error to win going away, 25-13. The host Knights were determined to finish the match strong and battled EOU point for point in set four until late. Strong serving from the Mounties’ Irene Walters pushed a 19-18 EOU lead out to 23-18 and the Knights did not recover. Jessica Lea was a thorn in the Knights’ side all night, with 20 kills and just two errors. Walters was also in double figure kills with 13. Emily Sampson had 32 assists. Warner Pacific was led by freshman Rachel Warick with 14 kills. Sam Kolakowski added 8 kills and 15 digs. Whitney Valenta and Melita Elliot shared the setting duties with 18 and 17 assists, respectively. The Knights will honor eight seniors tonight before their final home contest of the season versus College of Idaho.
