(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Saturday evening's fatal pedestrian-involved crash on Highway 99E just north of Salem. The crash resulted in the death of a 42-year old transient whose name is being released following confirmation of next of kin notification. The deceased pedestrian is identified as Arnold Dean Lane, age 42. Lane has previously lived in the Salem area. According to OSP Sergeant Bob Charpentier, on October 30, 2010 at approximately 6:20 p.m. a 1996 Nissan pickup driven by Gilberto Medina Sebastian, age 81, from Salem, was southbound on Highway 99E near Blossom Avenue NE when it struck Lane near the center of the two southbound lanes. LANE was trying to cross the highway in a partially lit area from the east side to the west side when he was struck. After impact, the pickup driver continued south a short distance before returning back to the scene to assist until police and medical personnel arrived. Medina Sebastian was not injured. He was using safety restraints. OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and ODOT assisted at the scene.
